Fan Li
At the end of the spring and Autumn period, Wu and Yue fought for hegemony, and Yue was defeated by Wu, yielding to peace. Gou Jian, the king of Yue, lived on his salary and tasted his courage. He appointed Wen Zhong and Fan Li, the senior officials, to rectify the state affairs. After ten years of enduring humiliation and hard work, he turned the country into a strong one and finally defeated the state of Wu. Gou Jian, the king of Yue, destroyed the state of Wu. When he was having a banquet at the Wu palace, he found that Fan Li had disappeared. The next day, he found Fan Li's coat by the Taihu Lake. Everyone thought that Fan Li had committed suicide by throwing himself into the lake. But after a while, someone sent a letter to Wen Zhong, which said: "when all the birds are killed, the slingshot will be collected; when all the rabbits are caught, the hounds will be killed and cooked; when the enemy is destroyed, the counsellors will be abandoned or killed. As a man, the king of Yue can only share his sufferings, not his happiness. The doctor has not left him until now, and it is inevitable that he will be killed soon. " At this time, Wen Zhong knew that Fan Li did not die, but lived in seclusion. Although he didn't believe what he said in the letter, he often told him that he was ill and didn't go to court, which caused Gou Jian's suspicion for a long time. One day, Gou Jian visited Wen Zhong and left his sword to kill himself. Wen Zhong understood Gou Jian's intention and regretted that he should not listen to Fan Li's advice, so he had to lead his sword to commit suicide.
