It is an idiom with the pronunciation of Ru ì Yu á NZ á of ā ng. The metaphor is out of place and out of harmony. It comes from Song Yu's Jiu Bian.

In the Warring States period, Chu and Song Yu's Jiu Bian: "round chisels and square pegs, I firmly know that they are difficult to enter because of discord." Qiu Rui of Ming Dynasty wrote that "a few officials are missing, and the Confucian gentry are mistaken, and the world is full of feelings."

As an object, attribute; refers to the two do not fit the peg, chisel, tenon and mortise. One side and one circle, it can't join. Metaphor does not coordinate, does not fit. See "square and circle".
