Idiom story
During the Warring States period, the king of Qi was very fond of playing Yu ensemble. The lazy Nanguo tried to get into the band. He pretended to be an expert. Soon after the old king died, the new king liked to listen to the Yu playing solo. Mr. Nanguo was so guilty that he escaped from the palace in the night for fear of revealing his true feelings. In ancient times, King Xuan of Qi loved music, especially playing Yu. He had 300 musicians who were good at playing Yu. King Xuan of Qi liked to be lively and ostentatious. He always wanted to show the dignity of being a king in front of people. So every time he listened to Yu, he always asked these 300 people to play together. When Mr. Nanguo heard about the hobby of King Xuan of Qi, he thought it was a good opportunity to make money. So he went to King Xuan of Qi and boasted, "king, I'm a famous musician. People who have heard me play Yu are moved. Birds and animals can dance and flowers and plants can vibrate with the beat. I'd like to present my unique skill to the king 。” King Xuan of Qi was glad to hear that. Without any investigation, he accepted him and put him in the team of 300 people. After that, Mr. Nanguo played with the 300 people to King Xuan of Qi. Like everyone else, he got a good salary and generous reward. He was very proud. In fact, Mr. Nanguo told a big lie, and he could not play Yu at all. Every time he plays, Mr. Nanguo is in the group with Yu in his hand. When people shake his body, he also shakes his body. When people shake his head, he also shakes his head. His face looks like he is emotional and selfless. He seems to be playing as well as others. He really can't see any flaws. In this way, Mr. Nanguo swindled day after day, getting paid for nothing. A few years later, King Xuan of Qi, who loved to listen to Yu ensemble, died, and his son, King min, succeeded to the throne. Wang Min of Qi also likes playing Yu, but he is different from King Xuan of Qi. He thinks that it's too noisy for 300 people to play together. It's better to play alone. So king Qi Min issued an order that the 300 people should practice well and be ready. He would let the 300 people take turns to play Yu one by one. When the musicians knew the order, they all actively practiced and wanted to show their skills. Only Mr. Nanguo, who made up the number, was as anxious as an ant on a hot pot. After thinking about it, he felt that he could not get through this time any more, so he had to pack up all night and run away. People like Mr. Nanguo, who have no knowledge and skills and rely on deception, can cheat for a while, but not for a lifetime. False is false, which can not escape the test of practice and be exposed. If we want to succeed, the way is to study hard. Only by training our real skills can we stand all the tests. Mr. Nanguo is a typical example of mixed food. He doesn't study, doesn't work, and lives by cheating. Although such a person can muddle through for a while, sooner or later he will show his feet. People should use honest labor (including physical and mental labor) to contribute to society. People's abilities vary, but as long as they try their best, they will be respected by the society. If you are like Mr. Nanguo, you will be the object of ridicule. When King Xuan of Qi asked people to play Yu, three hundred people must play it together. Nanguo asked to play Yu for King Xuan of Qi. King Xuan of Qi was very happy. After the death of King Xuan of Qi, his son king min of Qi succeeded to the throne. Qi Min Wang also liked to listen to Yu blowing, but he liked to let them play one by one, so Nanguo had to run away.
The meaning of Idioms
Mr. Nanguo, who can't play Yu, can be rewarded by playing in a band of 300 people. Once he wants to play alone with his real ability, he has to run away. This parable refers to people who have no real ability to mix with experts to make up the number, or mix bad things with good things to make up the number. Mr. Nanguo has also become a synonym for those who make up for the number. For thousands of years, the story of making up the number has been widely read. Nanguo's behavior cheated for a while, but not for a lifetime. It emphasizes that individuals should study hard and practice hard to make themselves truly talented and practical.
