cause
Nowadays, the popular online saying that "falling flowers intentionally follow the flowing water, but the flowing water loves falling flowers mercilessly" is originated from the saying of "continued biography of lanterns · Shifan Zen master of Zhuan, Longxiang, Wenzhou", which originates from the rise of youth literature in recent years and the widespread use of the sentence "falling flowers intentionally follow the flowing water, but the flowing water does not love falling flowers". Today, there are two main sources of this poem: 1. The Song Dynasty's shiweibai's record of continued biography of lanterns, Zen master Shiyu of Zhuan in Longxiang, Wenzhou; 2. A poem by Tang Bohu. Because of the philosophical nature of poetry, there are many people searching for the source on the Internet, so these two kinds of views spread rapidly on the Internet. Zhao Jianxuan, a scholar from Shandong Province, made an in-depth research on this issue and found that there was no similar fragment in Tang Bohu's poems. However, in Song Shi Wei Bai's xuzhuandenglu, there is no such article as Shiyu Zen master in Wenzhou Longxiang bamboo nunnery! The so-called source of the Internet lies in some irresponsible netizens' misrepresentation.
True source
So, where does this poem come from? Mr. Zhao Jianxuan told me that the sentence "falling flowers intentionally follow the flow of water, and the flow of water is merciless in love with falling flowers" first appeared in the Ming Dynasty Feng Menglong's "Yu Shi Ming Yan · Volume 13 Zhang Daoling seven tests Zhao Sheng", and then appeared in the Ming Dynasty Feng Menglong's "warning to the world · Volume 21 Zhao Taizu thousands of miles to send Jingniang". Later on, it can be seen in Ling Mengchu's "the second quarter of the story, Volume 15, Han's maid and maid as his wife, Gu ti's control of JuLang Department". These three books are the popular collection of vernacular novels in Ming Dynasty, so this sentence should only be the popular poetry of anonymous literati at that time. It is groundless to say that "xuchuandenglu" is widely spread on the Internet. "This result makes readers who like this poem somewhat disappointed, but it's more or less consolation to know its real source. There is another version of this sentence, which is "the falling flowers follow the flowing water intentionally, but the flowing water doesn't love the falling flowers". However, both Feng Menglong's Yu Shi Ming Yan (Volume 13), Zhang Daoling's seven tests of Zhao Sheng (Volume 21), and Ling Mengchu's Han Shi Lang (Volume 15) and Gu Ti Kong's Ju Lang Office (Volume 21) are flowing water This version is a misinformation. As for the text of "Zen master Shi li of Zhuan, Longxiang, Wenzhou", it is a myth. The only information we can find about Shiyu is the book "the cause of Zen's great virtue enlightenment" compiled by Mingyao and Mingjie. It is recorded as follows:
The reason of Enlightenment
Shi Li, a Zen master of Zhuan temple in Longxiang, Wenzhou, is the heir of the Zen master of Buddha's eye in Qingyuan, Longmen city. He is a folk surname and a native of Chengdu. He became a monk in accordance with Da CI Zong ya, and was absorbed in the Sutra of ShouLeng Yan. Five years later, he began to leave his master and travel to the south. Later, he went to Longmen Qingyuan Buddhist temple to study. At the beginning of the ceremony, master Shiyu told master foyan based on his usual learning experience. Buddha's eye Chan Master said, "you are very understanding, but you don't have the strength to open your eyes and ears." So he left him under his seat as the Minister of the church. One day, Shi Li, a Zen master, stood up and asked Buddha Eye Zen master, "how about absolute time?" Buddha's eye Zen master said: "such as the white vertebrae in your monk's hall." When he heard this, he was at a loss. In the evening, Zen master foyan comes to tangsiliao. Zen master Shi Li asked again the question raised during the day. Buddha's eye Chan Master said, "idle words." Zen master Shi Yu finally said that he had a great understanding. In the last year of huizongzhenghe of beizong (1118), the Zen master Shifan was born in Tianning Temple of Hezhou to preach the Dharma. In the early years of Shaoxing (1131), the Zen master Shifan was ordered to open the temple in Nengren Temple of Yandang Mountain. At that time, Zhen Xieqing, a Zen master, lived in Jiangxin temple. He heard that Shiyu was going to preach the Dharma there. He was afraid that his Dharma was unfamiliar and the believers would not agree with him. So he crossed the river and personally welcomed Shiyu into his father-in-law's room to show his nine respects, so as to induce the believers in Wenzhou. Since then, all the local believers have come back to respect the Zen master Shifan. Zen master Shifan had just arrived at Nengren temple, but before he could rule the temple according to the law, a monk under his seat punished him for fear of practicing the rules and regulations, so he set fire to Nengren temple and burned it to rubble one night. He did not get discouraged, so he set up an nunnery by himself, and still insisted on ascending the throne. Zen master Shi Yu said: "I love leisure, but I don't play Drum Mountain drum. I'll come to visit Yandang Mountain. Jiege dangerous building disappeared, two or three cottages by the stream. Is there anyone else in common? " Finish saying, drink, then next seat. Tanyue shinshi, who listened to the Dharma, was moved by the spirit of the Zen master Shiyu to promote Dharma and life, so he built it together. Soon, Nengren temple was restored to Baofang. Because he was proficient in Lengyan and had a deep foundation of Confucian classics, when he received the audience, he was usually more plain and comfortable, either pointing at it directly or showing it in music. Here are three examples of his French lessons, from which readers can explore his Zen style. Roll in the mud, wash your feet and go to bed. It's only now. The sea is full of waves, and the villains are deep He picked up his stick and said, "you and others have not got a head, but must get a head. When you get a start, you have to be born all the way. The general public, and is he born all the way? " For a long time, he said, "it's hard to break the pine under the snow, but the wind can't move the moon in the sky." Zhuo, stick, next seat. 2. Go to the hall: "if you have no understanding, you will be confused if you have the Dharma. No one can stand here, no one can live here. If you stand, you are in danger; if you live, you are blind. Straight to the meaning of non-stop Xuan, sentence non-stop meaning, with non-stop. These three aspects are clear. There is no need to take care of everything. Naturally, there is no need to take care of everything. Although it is, we should know that there is something up. It's not sunny after a long rain. Yes 3. Go to class: "when you see something, it's not what you see. Seeing is still far away, but not within reach. The falling flowers follow the flowing water intentionally, and the flowing water loves the falling flowers mercilessly. Those who can return are naturally not you. Who is not you who is not you? I don't know where to turn my everlasting regret to spring. " Drink a drink and say: "after 30 years, Mo Dao Neng Ren teaches bad people men and women." His last piece of French is obviously derived from the Sutra of Lengyan. Zen master Shi Li died in July of the Bingyin year (1146) in Shaoxing, Southern Song Dynasty.
