Quotation of Analects
In the fifteenth chapter of Wei linggong, Zi Gong asked, "is there a word that can be used for life?" Confucius said, "I'm sorry! Don't do to others what you don't want to do to yourself. " In the fifth chapter of gongyechang, Zi Gong said, "I don't want to be imposed by others, but I also want to be imposed by others." Confucius said, "giving is beyond your reach." In Yan Yuan No. 12, Zhong Gong asked Ren. Confucius said, "going out is like meeting a great guest, and making people like bearing a great sacrifice. Don't do to others what you don't want. There is no resentment in the country, and there is no resentment at home. " Zhong Gong said, "although Yong is not sensitive, please do this."
meaning
This sentence is similar to Laozi's "rule by inaction", which is probably "forgive". If you don't like it, don't worry about it.
Extension
Don't impose on others what you don't want to bear. "Don't do to others what you don't want to do to yourself" is the earliest principle of Zhou rites, which is highly praised by Confucius, the founder of Confucianism. That is to say, when you ask others to do something, first of all, you are willing to do it yourself, or if you do it yourself, then you will feel at ease with your request; the popular understanding is that if you can't do it yourself, you can't ask others to do it. What this sentence reveals is the important principle of dealing with interpersonal relationship. Confucius said that people should treat others with their own behavior as a reference. People should have a broad mind, when dealing with people, do not be narrow-minded, but should be magnanimous, forgive others. If you force others what you don't want, it will not only destroy the relationship with others, but also make things stand still and out of control. This principle should be adhered to in interpersonal communication, which is the embodiment of respecting others and treating others equally. In the world, we should not only pay attention to our own existence, but also pay attention to the existence of others. People are equal. Don't do what you don't want to do to others.

Idiom story
During the spring and Autumn period, Confucius' student Zhong Gong asked Confucius how to behave in accordance with the principle of benevolence. Confucius immediately replied: "a person should treat people seriously, do not impose things he does not like on others, and do not complain whether he is in court or in opposition." Zhong Gong said with thanks, "I am slow, but I must remember what you said."
Philosophical reflection
For a proposition, we should make a comprehensive analysis, rather than just from one-sided bias. "Don't do to others what you don't want to do to yourself" doesn't logically mean "do to others what you want to do to yourself." It can be seen from logic that the original proposition is true and the converse proposition of this proposition is true at the same time, but "do to others what you want" is the negation proposition of "do not do to others what you don't want", and the negation proposition is not necessarily true. What you don't want, you just can't impose it on others, but if the other party wants, it doesn't belong to the scope of "giving". What you want is not what others want, so you can't impose it on others. Generally speaking, no matter what you want or not, you can't "give", that is, impose things on others. There is only one standard, that is, take others' will as the standard. It depends on whether others are willing or not, not on our standards.
