Idioms and allusions
During the reign of King Zhou of the Shang Dynasty, King Wu of the Zhou Dynasty led his army to the capital of the Shang Dynasty, Chaoge. Along the way, people continued to join in. Even the soldiers of King Zhou of the Shang Dynasty joined in the battle for Zhou with weapons. When the army arrived at Muye in the southern suburb of Chaoge, a solemn oath ceremony was held. The roar of tens of thousands of people resounded through the sky. King Zhou of Shang Dynasty was terrified when he heard it in Chaoge City, so he quickly dispatched troops to meet the enemy. However, the officers and men of Shang Dynasty saw that the end of King Zhou of Shang Dynasty was coming, and no one wanted to work for him. The army of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty fought bravely, and some of them even went to battle with singing and dancing and laughing. Therefore, as soon as the two armies contacted, King Zhou's army soon disintegrated. When King Zhou of Shang Dynasty saw that the situation had gone, he knew that the righteous soldiers would not spare him if they caught him. So he put on the clothes made of precious jade, mounted the deer terrace and burned himself to death. King Wu of Zhou Dynasty destroyed the Shang Dynasty and returned triumphantly. He established the Zhou Dynasty with Ho (in the southwest of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province) as the capital. Because the war was over and there was no need to fight any more, King Wu of Zhou announced that he would return his horses to herd cattle and let them plough the land. King Wu of Zhou distributed the grain in the Treasury to the poor families to help them; released the prisoners to let them free; advocated morality, loyalty, filial piety and honesty among the common people; and granted official titles to the meritorious and talented people respectively. From then on, the world settled down and the people lived and worked in peace and contentment.
