Idioms and allusions
Jia Yi was born in Luoyang during the Western Han Dynasty. He was angry at reading since he was a child. When he was a teenager, he was erudite and talented. Later, he became a famous politician and writer. When he was young, Jia Yi worshipped Shang Yang, Shen Buhe and other reformers and was determined to be the same as them when he grew up. When he was in his twenties, he was called as a doctor by Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty, and soon became a doctor of Taizhong. Later, due to the exclusion of Zhou Bo and others, he was gradually alienated by Emperor Wen, and was demoted to Changsha wangtaifu and Lianghuai wangtaifu. After many years of official career, Jia Yi realized that the power of the princes was too great, the system of the court was not strict, and the invasion of the Huns had seriously threatened the Han Dynasty. For this reason, he wrote to Emperor Wen many times and commented on the advantages and disadvantages of Shang Yang's reform. He believed that Shang Yang's reform had both advantages and disadvantages. It stimulated the production of the Qin Dynasty, but also deviated from the folk customs, resulting in a lot of contradictions among family members, which made parents and children often quarrel over small interests. Jia Yi intended to persuade Emperor Wen of Han Dynasty to draw lessons from history through these examples. When Jia Yi was in the dynasty, the Huns invaded the Han Dynasty frequently. On the issue of dealing with the invasion of foreign enemies, he strongly advocated firmly resisting the Hun invasion and making the frontier people live in peace. However, his proposal did not attract the attention of Emperor Wen of Han Dynasty, and Jia Yi's political ambition could not be carried out.
