The origin of Idioms
Confucius' Analects of Confucius in pre Qin period: Ye Gong asked Confucius about Zilu, but Zilu was wrong. Confucius said, "if you don't tell me, you are a man who is too angry to eat and too happy to worry. You don't know that you are going to be old." (1) Ye Gong: ye, Yin sh è. Ye Gong's surname is Shen and his name is Zhuliang. He is a doctor of Chu state. His fiefdom is in Yecheng (now the south of Yexian County in Henan Province), so he is called Ye Gong. (2) yun'er: Yun, a pronoun, means so. I have the same ear, that's all. Confucius' Analects of Confucius in pre Qin period: Ye Gong asked Zilu what kind of man Confucius was, but Zilu didn't answer. Confucius (to Zilu) said, "why don't you say that? He is so angry and hardworking that he forgets to eat. He is so happy that he forgets all his worries. He doesn't even know that he is getting old. Idiom story
During the spring and Autumn period, Confucius led his students around the world to give lectures and came to yeyi, the state of Chu. Shen Zhuliang, the Duke of Chu, received him. He didn't know much about Confucius, so he asked Zilu quietly. Zilu didn't know how to answer him for a moment. Confucius later learned that he said to Zilu, and then said, "he is a man who is too angry to eat, and he is too happy to forget his worries. He doesn't know that his old age is coming."
