story
One of the most famous stories in history is that King li of Zhou banned slander. King li of Zhou had a tyrannical administration. He was instigated by his favorite minister, Rong Yigong, to change the original system of the Zhou Dynasty. Many industries on which the common people depend for a living were transferred to the royal family. For a time, people's livelihood was in dire straits and people's grievances were boiling. Mu Gonghu, the descendant of Zhaokang, assisted the royal family from generation to generation. Today, Qishan County, Shaanxi Province, said to King Zhou Li, "the common people can't stand it any more." King Li didn't listen to advice, but he used secret service to deal with the people. He sent people to the state of Wei (Qi County, Henan Province) and invited many witches to patrol the streets and alleys in the capital city of hojing (West of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province) to eavesdrop on people's conversation. Anyone who they pointed out was rebellious or slandered would be executed immediately. In this way, the whole nation no longer dares to comment on state affairs. Even if they meet each other, they do not talk about each other, but they are looking at the way. Zhou Li Wang happily said to Zhao Gong, "I can unify my mind, and no one dares to talk nonsense any more." Taking this opportunity, the Duke of Zhao published a Gao Lun which was often quoted by later generations: "you are forcing the people to shut their mouths. Where are the people? They really don't have their own ideas. We should know that people's defense is better than Sichuan's. If the river is choked up, it will hurt many people. The same is true for the common people. " However, King li of Zhou did not listen to the advice, and the common people still dared to be angry. 3 years later (842 BC), the civilians finally could not bear to spontaneously combine to attack the palace and to send the tyrant to a place called * (now Shanxi). It is known as the "Chinese riot" in history.
