Face to face Gong, face to face drum
Gongs face to face and drums face to face refer to face-to-face discussion, verification or argument. It comes from the 51st chapter of Jin Ping Mei CI Hua written by Ming Xiaosheng: "he was flustered when he heard my mother say that he would not care when he wanted to do this work. If you want me, you're two gongs and drums, right? "
allusion
The west gate of Shouzhou city is a modern cement masonry building, which is not as elegant as it used to be. According to historical records, the west of ancient Shouzhou city was Shouxi lake. On the endless water, there are a lot of gulls and sails. The west gate is also an urn city. The inner gate faces west and the outer gate faces north. There are two blue stone carvings on the walls on both sides of the inner gate, one with a drum and the other with a gong. This is one of the eight sceneries in Shouyang, which is called "gongs facing the drum in front of one's face". These two small stone slabs bear in mind the noble character of a money manager who "lives in the Treasury and does not touch a penny". it is said that during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the city wall and Boan of the west gate in Shouzhou were destroyed due to many floods, so the county magistrate raised money, grain and manpower to rebuild the west gate and Boan. The money, food and materials collected were handed over to an old man surnamed Yan. Although his official position was humble, he was very serious. People respected him as Lord Yan. He reported every expenditure in the project to the county magistrate in time. The county magistrate was too cumbersome, so he said, "you don't have to tell me about the expenditure in the future, just spend it." However, Yan Gong is more serious: "money and food are important things, so you should do things face to face, so as not to be talked about later." The magistrate knew Yan Gong's temper, but he couldn't. Construction is a major event. At that time, several gentry wanted to take over the project and make profits from it. However, the county government always adheres to the principle of personal experience, fast progress, good quality and low cost. Seeing that the city wall project was about to be completed, the gentry saw that there was no hope of making money and sued the county magistrate in front of the state officials, saying that he embezzled the money and food of the people and was greedy for the public and the private. The state official quickly sent someone to check it, and Yan Gong was brought to court for trial. Then Yan Gong moved out all the accounts of the construction process, and explained the details of each expenditure clearly, and the money and food were well documented. The state official was very happy and said, "Mr. Yan, you live in an important place for money and food, but you are not greedy for any money. You have a clear account. You are really a good talent. You have not only done your job well, but also recorded the achievements of county officials. " The magistrate punished the false accuser and commended the magistrate and Yan Gong. The magistrate admired the upright and conscientious Yan Gong, so he ordered the craftsmen to carve a drum and a gong on the wall of the newly built urn as a memorial. Later, "face to face drum, face to face Gong" became one of Shouchun's "eight scenes". standing in front of these two stone carvings, we still admire their noble demeanor and integrity. After Shouxian county becomes a famous scenic spot, tourists from all over the world will certainly spread the story to all over the world, hoping to have more practical public servants and the spirit of "beating drums and gongs face to face".
