Kangxi 30 years (1681) as the deputy governor Yushi, had written to rectify the program, inspection officials, severely punish illegal. He said: "only by supervising and caring for the virtuous and upright, can the people be obedient, officials be honest and upright, and the country be revitalized." He proposed to establish a hundred official assessment system, record every year, report to the Ministry of officials, as the basis for the rise and fall of officials' rewards and punishments. During his political career, Li Yuanzhen was loyal to his duty, diligent in government affairs, conscientious and meticulous. In the 33rd year of Kangxi's reign, he was transferred to the post of Zuo Shilang. At that time, people in the Ministry were floating about and their official duties were abandoned, which led to some officials taking advantage of opportunism and doing evil. After Li Yuanzhen took office, he took punishing the evil and promoting the good as his own duty and made strict rectification. Within a few months, the documents were cleared. The next year, he was ordered to build the right guard barracks in Datong, Shanxi. He did his best and planned carefully. More than 18000 barracks are solid and perfect, saving 300000 taels of gold. Li Yuanzhen had been in the court for more than 40 years and was honest and upright. In the famous "two rivers corruption case", many people took advantage of the opportunity of digging the river to claim money and enrich their own pockets. After the incident, there were many connections between the court and the central government. However, Li Yuanzhen was still innocent, so he was ordered to investigate Tianjin river works. After returning to Beijing, he was in good order, and the Emperor Kangxi was very satisfied with it. Li Yuanzhen was an official in the dynasty, but he never forgot the people of his hometown. In the spring and summer of 1709 (the 48th year of Kangxi reign), Zhecheng was plagued by heavy rain, and the people's life was deprived. Li Yuanzhen wrote a song of disaster to record it. He donated hundreds of gold, opened a "granary" and sold official rice at a low price, so that the people of Zhecheng could live a full life. He also asked to upgrade Zhecheng from a small county to a middle County, which greatly boosted the style of writing. Because of his noble character and outstanding achievements, Li Yuanzhen was deeply loved and valued by Emperor Kangxi. The emperor has repeatedly given him poems, letters, precious inkstones, gold and silver, laurels, costumes and other treasures. His ancestors had three generations, and he was also granted the title. At the time of his death, "the emperor mourned, and all the ministers and scholars lamented at that time"; his disciples even cried bitterly.
