Xu Zhenyu
Xu Zhenyu, 1901-1986, was born in Weitang Town, Jiashan. He loved literature since childhood. At the age of 14, he joined the No.2 Middle School of Zhejiang Province in Jiaxing and studied characters, phonology, exegesis, textual research and CI Zhang. After studying in the literature and History Department of Nanjing Normal University, he studied poetry, CI and Qu from Wang Dou and Wu Mei. His poems were highly praised by Liu Yizheng, a famous scholar. He was praised as "a clear, old and outstanding scholar". After the age of 20, he studied foreign languages and was familiar with English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. After graduating from University at the age of 22, he worked as a middle school teacher for more than 10 years. After 30 years old, he learned Esperanto and used it to translate and write. He introduced Chinese classics and new literary works to foreign countries and enhanced their understanding of Chinese culture. The poems in Esperanto have been circulated at home and abroad. They were selected in the collection of nine poets compiled by the Esperanto poet carolkay and the selected poems in Esperanto compiled by the Scottish poet aud.
He has successively served as professor of Chinese Department of Zhejiang University, Professor of Chinese Department of East China Normal University, director of teaching and research section of classical literature, and director of Institute of Ancient Books Collation. They are fluent in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish, especially Esperanto. He has written Meng Song Feng Ge Yin manuscript, selected poems of Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty, proofreading notes of new words of Shishuo, etc. He has translated Esperanto Chinese poetry anthology, etc., and has created a large number of Esperanto poems.

Mr. Xu Zhenyu is a famous scholar, poet and translator in Jiashan, Zhejiang Province. Born on June 9, 1901. In 1923, he graduated from the Department of literature and history of Southeast University (formerly Nanjing Normal University). He was a middle school teacher for more than ten years. He joined Zhejiang University in 1939. After liberation, the Department was adjusted and transferred to the Chinese Department of East China Normal University as a professor and doctoral supervisor. He is also the editorial board member of Cihai. After the establishment of the Institute of Ancient Books Collation of East China Normal University in 1982, he served as the director of the Institute and was employed as a member of the Ancient Books Collation group of the State Council. After 1984, he became the honorary director of the Institute of ancient books of East China Normal University. He devoted his whole life to the cause of culture and education and cultivated a large number of talents for the country. He was a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference.
