Zhang Shiheng
Zhang Shiheng (about 1857-1918) was named Chu Bao. In his later years, he was named because of juesheng. He was born in Hefei, Anhui Province, and Zhang Wenxuan, commander of the garrison, was Li Hongzhang's nephew. My grandfather, Zhang Chun. His father Zhang Shaotang's grandmother is Li Hongzhang's great aunt. Zhang Shaotang is Li Hongzhang's cousin and Li Hongzhang's brother-in-law. He is very close. During Zhang Shiheng's term of office, every time he got a new type of ordnance, he had to distinguish its shape, quality and degree, and study writing and releasing, poor and quiet. As a result of meritorious service, he was awarded the second rank of Hualing. He was appointed as the general manager of the Beiyang ordnance Bureau and concurrently the military academy. On March 11, 1892, because of clearing up the Rehe sect bandits, he quickly released his weapons and won military merit. Zhang Shaotang once conducted regiment training in Hefei and served as the head of the regiment. In 1862, he joined the Huai army and served as an officer of Li Hongzhang's personal battalion. He was awarded the title of "Gu Yong Ba Tu Lu" for his meritorious service. Zhang Shiheng's mother is Li Hongzhang's eldest sister. Born in 1828, she respects her elders, reconciles her sisters, and teaches her husband and children. She is very virtuous and highly praised by Zhang and Li. Zhang Shiheng had two elder brothers, Zhang Xizhen. When the Huai army was fighting with the Taiping Army in southern Jiangsu, he joined Li Hongzhang's shogunate to manage the Huai army's ordnance. Zhang Shiheng's mother died when he was 10 years old. When he was about 20 years old, he went to Nanjing, where he was taught by Wang Shiduo, a famous scholar. Zhang Shiheng was in charge of Beiyang ordnance Bureau for five years and Jiangnan manufacturing Bureau for six years.
