At the age of 14, he ranked first among all the students. At the age of 19, he went to the province to apply for the examination, and won the first place in the book of changes. Ming Jiajing 32 years (1553), 20 years old, United Jie Jinshi, granted Huangmei County Magistrate. He moved the capital, the censor of QianDu, and the governor of Ningxia. Huangmei County used to be remote and backward, local tyrants and evil gentry were domineering, and successive county magistrate had nothing to do. After Zhang Jiuyi arrived in office, he made a thorough investigation and secret visit, and arrested and punished a few villains who made trouble and bullied the good people, so that the local people could live and work in peace and contentment. He was the principal of the inspection and seal division of the Ministry of official affairs. after Huang Mei was transferred to the capital, Zhang Jiuyi and Wang Shizhen shared the same ideals and got along well. Soon, Wang's father was put in prison for offending Quan Xiang Yan Song. As a result, many old friends of his disciples did not dare to approach Wang Shizhen any more, and Zhang Jiuyi remained the same. Shizhen tried to dissuade him many times, but I'm afraid it would hurt him. However, he said generously: "when a scholar dies for a confidant, he will not avoid death. Does he still care about his official position?" Zhang Jiuyi was demoted as Shaoqing of Shangbao in Nanjing, and later moved to Guangping Prefecture. As soon as he arrived, he was transferred to Huguang and stationed in baling. Although Zhang Jiuyi was repeatedly attacked by Yan Song, he had no regrets. He came to baling, boarded Yueyang Tower, looked at Dongting Lake, raised his glass and said, "Fan Zhongyan is first worried and then happy. I am magnanimous and do happy things. What can I worry about?" He often took a boat trip in the moon, toured Dongting, went out of Xiangjiang River and involved in the Three Gorges, and wrote many poems praising the great rivers and mountains of the motherland.
anecdote
During his tenure as chief inspector, he was not in charge of power or common people, and did everything fairly. In the 44th year of Jiajing reign, King Jing was buried and sailed over baling. The eunuch told the local people to take 1000 liang of silver as "travel expenses". Zhang Jiuyi should say: "don't worry, go first, I'll send it later." Up to the junction of Qizhou and Huangmei, eunuchs still did not see the silver, so they stopped the ship and waited. That night, hundreds of people, not far from the king's spirit boat, raised torches and yelled. The eunuchs were so surprised that they thought they were robbers that they sailed away without a cent. Shortly after he was promoted to Chief Secretary, Zhang Jiuyi resigned because of slander. He built a "green wave building" on the Bank of the Honghe River in his hometown, which has accumulated thousands of books. He often talked about the past and the present with Cao Heng, his cousin who resigned and returned to his hometown and Minister of Nanjing Ministry of industry. Zhang Jiuyi was ordered to divide his forces to attack it, and was quickly calmed down. He was promoted to vice minister because of his merits. He transferred Ganzhou (now Zhangye, Gansu Province) to contain anda's criminals by means of both kindness and authority. He was promoted to the right to participate in politics, Miyun to be appointed as an envoy, and Shanxi to be appointed as an envoy. At the 11th Annual Meeting of Wanli, Zhang Jiuyi was promoted to governor of Ningxia. At that time, the local people were suffering from famine, and the starving people were carrying on the road. When he arrived, he bought 25000 stones from the mainland to help the victims. After that, they ordered officials and people to open canals, build bridges, dig rivers and build weirs to prepare for floods and droughts; they also recruited refugees, reclaimed wasteland and built fortresses to store troops, and drew maps one by one to report to the imperial court. They also built Xingwu castles and many barracks for hundreds of miles, so that the enemy would not dare to harass the frontier again. The imperial court bestowed gold, silk and silk on the workers. However, due to the factional struggle within the court, instead of being reused, he was dismissed from office unjustly in February 1586 for the crime of "Party member". After the new censor pleaded, Zhang Jiuyi returned to office the following year and became governor of Guizhou. Zhang Jiuyi was very angry and decided to return home again.

He lived a simple life with no ornaments, no food and no clothes. He didn't value money. Some people bribed him with treasures. He declined and said, "I don't understand this kind of play." After Ming Jing and Yang Xing died, the poor family could not be buried. He mourned for the funeral. Yang Xing had no son, and he was sacrificed to Wen.
