Life of the characters
Early experience
His grandfather, CEN Shanfang, was an official of the Western Liang Dynasty and a minister of the Ministry of officials. His father, cen Zhixiang, was framed as the Minister of Yu Department / magistrate of Handan County in the late Sui Dynasty. When Cen Wenwen was 14 years old, he went to Sili to plead for his father. He was passionate and sincere, and called on Ming Dynasty to argue. His father's unjust imprisonment is well-known. In 618 A.D., Xiao Mi became emperor in Jingzhou and appointed Cen Wenwen as the Minister of Zhongshu to draft the proclamation. In the fourth year of Wude (621 A.D.), the Tang army surrounded Jingzhou and urged Xiao Mi to surrender. Li Xiaogong, the prince of Hejian Prefecture, calmed Jingzhou, and all the soldiers wanted to plunder it. Cen Wenwen advised Li Xiaogong to say: "since the Sui Dynasty, people all over the world have been looking forward to a good monarch. Now Xiao's officials and Jiangling's elders, who are determined to surrender, really hope to be safe. Wang Ye must plunder. It's not that bizhou wants to be reborn from suffering. He's also afraid that people from the Yangtze River and Lingnan will be frustrated by Xianghua. " Li Xiaogong thought that he was right and immediately ordered a ban on looting. So the city of Jiangling was in good order. After hearing the news, all the southern states and counties were obedient. Tang Gaozu was very appreciative of Jingzhou. He thought that Jingzhou should not drive, and that he would go to Taiwan to test the doctor.
submit a memorial on government policy
In the first year of Zhenguan (627 AD), cen Wenwen was worshipped as secretary Lang. He has been on "Ode to Yitian" and "Ode to Sanyuan" successively, and his diction is very beautiful, so it is famous. Recommended by Zuo pushe and Li Jing, he taught Zhongshu Sheren. In Wude, the manuscripts of imperial edicts and military affairs were all written by Yan shigu, and Cen wenben was more agile than him. After Yan shigu was removed from office, cen Wenwen was appointed as Zhongshu Shilang to take charge of confidential documents. In the 10th year of Zhenguan (637 AD), the book of Zhou was completed, and Jiangling County was canonized. Most of the historical theories in this book are written by Cen. In the 11th year of Zhenguan (638 A.D.), cen Wenwen wrote that it was difficult for a minister to make contributions to the cause of creating chaos, but it was not easy to keep the established foundation. The former residence is safe and ready for danger, so it determines its life, has a beginning and an end, so it has a long foundation. Today, although hundreds of millions of people are in peace and tranquility, they have not only inherited the chaos, but also suffered from depression. There are still a lot of loss of registered permanent residence and few farmland reclamation. However, the damage has not yet been restored; the trend of moral education is widespread, but the assets are often empty. Take the ancient tree planting as an analogy. If the tree is planted for a long time, its branches and leaves are luxuriant. If it is planted for a short time, it is not solid at all. Although it is planted with thick soil and warmed in spring, it will wither if one shakes it. Today's people are quite similar to this. If they were kept for a long time, they would multiply gradually; if they were given corvee all of a sudden, the economy would wither. If the loss is serious, people will not be able to live; if they are unable to live, they will be filled with resentment; if they are filled with resentment, they will be rebellious. Therefore, Emperor Shun said: "lovely is not king, but fearable is not human." Kong Anguo explained: "people take the king as their life, so they are lovely; when the king loses his way, people betray him, so they are terrible." Confucius said, "a king is like a boat, and a man is like water. Water can carry a boat or overturn it." This is the reason why ancient wise kings, though not rest, should be cautious every day. When your majesty looks at the events of the past and the present, and examines the opportunities of safety, he attaches great importance to the country in the first place, and takes a hundred million omens in the second. In the election of Ming Dynasty, we should be cautious in rewards and punishments, and we should be able to advance the talents and retire them. When you hear it, you can change it. When you give advice, you can do good without doubt. When you give orders, you must believe them. To cultivate one's spirit, one should save the entertainment of hunting and playing; to be extravagant and thrifty, one should reduce the cost of labor. In the garden, you don't want to open up land; you collect bows and arrows, but don't forget weapons. At that time, Li Taichong, the king of Wei, was crowned the kings and renovated his house. CEN Wenwen thought that luxury could not be long, so Shangshu tried to explain the importance of advocating thrift, and to restrain Li Tai's extravagance. Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty praised his opinions, so he gave 300 pieces of silk. In the 17th year of Zhenguan, he was awarded the title of doctor Yin Qing Guanglu.
Modest and filial
Although Cen Wenwen had a high official position and a high salary, he thought that he was still a scholar. He served his mother with filial piety and was very kind in raising his brothers and nephews. Emperor Taizong praised him as "generous, loyal and sincere, and trusted by my relatives". At that time, Li Zhice, the king of Jin Dynasty, became the crown prince, and many famous people also served as officials in the east palace. Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty also wanted Cen Wenwen to serve as an official in the East Palace, but he said again, "I have already exceeded my duty with mediocrity. I'm afraid that I can't do it. How can I abuse the official position in the East Palace and get slandered quickly. Please serve your majesty wholeheartedly, and do not wish for the favor of the eastern palace any more. " Emperor Taizong had no choice but to give up, but asked him to go to the East Palace every five days. The crown prince treated him as a guest and friend. in the 18th year of Zhenguan, he was appointed Zhongshu Ling. Most people are happy to be promoted, but he looks worried. His mother was surprised and asked him why. He replied, "it's not old, it's not honourable, it's too much flattery, it's high responsibility, so it's scary." When his relatives and friends heard that he had been promoted to an official position, they all came to celebrate, but he said, "today I am hanged, not congratulated.". Some people advised him to buy more land. He sighed: "there is a civilian in the south, and there are people on foot. The hope of the past is only Secretary Lang and a county magistrate. And without hard work, only because of the ink to the position of the book order, this is also to the extreme. How can I talk about buying property again when I'm afraid of the burden of salary? " CEN Wenwen held an important post in zhongshuling, shouldering heavy responsibilities and giving rich rewards. He let his younger brother Cen Wenzhao manage any property that came in or went out, but he didn't ask anything. CEN Wenzhao was a secretary at that time, and he often made friends with frivolous people. Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty was very unhappy when he heard about it. He calmly said to Cen Wenwen, "I'm afraid I'll make too many friends with you. I'm afraid you'll make me a foreign official. How about that?" CEN Wenwen replied: "my younger brother lost his father when he was young, and my mother was so dedicated that she didn't want him to stay away from him for two nights. If you go out today, your mother will be sad and haggard. If you don't have this younger brother, there will be no old mother. " He sobbed as he spoke. Taizong sympathized with his mother and did not transfer his younger brother out of Kyoto. He only summoned Cen Wenzhao to make a strict admonition, but there was no fault in the end.
Liaodong
Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty was going to invade Liaodong. All his plans were entrusted to Cen Wenwen. In the 19th year of Zhenguan (645 A.D.), cen Wenwen went to Liaodong from Taizong. Because of his "deep acceptance of the Commission, exhausted expression, words and actions, he was quite different from the ordinary.". Seeing this, Emperor Taizong was very worried and said to the left and right: "the text is going with me now, I'm afraid it can't go back with me." In Youzhou (today's Beijing City), he got a severe illness. Taizong went to visit him in person and soothed him with tears. He died at the age of 51. He gave it to his servant and governor of Guangzhou. His posthumous title was Xian and he was buried with Zhaoling.
