In his 40s, he resigned from his official post and returned to Li. His works include: JiZhai manlu, jueji, wengji, Congyan, zhiluekao, Hushan manuscript, Dongyun Qingxiang, etc. He opposed objective idealism and subjective idealism with simple materialism. On the theory of human nature, he claims that there is only temperament, no other. On the issue of natural principle and human desire, it advocates that natural principle is in human desire. On the issue of form and spirit, he refutes the view that the soul is immortal and reincarnation after death. In his early years, inspired by his grandfather Zhang Lun, he did not agree with the distinction between nature and Qi as the relative division of good and evil. After middle age, influenced by Wang Tingxiang (1474-1544), a simple materialist, he opposed some people's opinion that there were ghosts and gods in the mountains. His philosophical works are well received by Japanese academic circles. In February 1984, Zhonghua Book Company published Wu Tinghan collection, which was collated by Rong zhaozu.
