Huang Yujie (1850-1918) was born in Taichung, Taiwan, China. He studied Chinese medicine in 1870 and practised in 1876. In 1882, his family moved to Dadaocheng, Taipei, Taiwan to continue to work in Chinese medicine. In 1895, after the beginning of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, he continued to serve in Xinglin, and in 1897, he officially obtained the license of traditional Chinese Medicine issued by the Japanese government.
Besides medical skills, Huang Yujie's greatest contribution to Taiwan society is to promote the modernization of Taiwan society. For example, he founded the Taipei natural Football Association in 1900, which is regarded as a key public welfare organization to abolish women's foot binding in Taiwan. In addition to "letting go", he also believed that "breaking hair without modification" would help to improve social customs, so he established a "breaking hair without modification" society with the purpose of "cutting braided hair and still wearing Tang costume".
