Horse road
The raceway refers to the ramp built on the inner side of the platform, which is generally symmetrical. The surface of the ramp is built with steep bricks, and the edge of the brick is used to form astringent feet, commonly known as "Yi", which is convenient for horses and vehicles to get up and down.
In the construction, when the angle is larger and the slope is higher than a certain height, a 1-2m wide horizontal road should be set on the slope.
Ancient city wall horse road
The horse road is a passage to the city on horseback. Its main function is to transport troops, grain and weapons. The horse path is close to the city wall (tower) and upward, with a slope of 15-30 to the top of the wall. Horse road is often two opposite, shaped as "eight" or inverted "eight", about a few meters wide, paved with green bricks, with a female wall on the outside. When the inner city was built in the early Ming Dynasty, there were 14 pairs of horse roads (according to Fu gongyue's the old city gate of Beijing), besides the horse roads under the nine gate towers and the turrets. According to the distance and the need of defense, the horseway of the city wall was set up on the second floor of the city. The rest of the horseway was opposite to the main traffic road in Dadu city of the Yuan Dynasty, which was convenient for transportation and troop deployment. For example, the north city wall is respectively located in the north of yaowangmiao Street (later renamed old Gulou Street) and Yonghegong street. These streets are old streets in the former metropolis. There is also a situation in which new streets are gradually formed near the raceway due to the transportation of goods and the mobilization of troops. For example, there was no main road in the north of xijinfang in most cities. In the Wanli year of the Ming Dynasty, a new open road was formed in the east of Xizhimen Street, which intersected with the xinkaidao street in the north of xijinfang and was called "Xinjiekou". Xinkaidao street was later called "Xinjiekou North Street". At the north end of the street, there is a pair of horse paths under the wall.

Basic concepts
Man Hengxian
A convex wall encircles an old city of Beijing. High archery tower, tight urn, crenels and piers. In the age of cold weapons, this kind of fortification was a wall of iron. In this defense system, the raceway is an indispensable facility. The horse road connects the people in the city, the soldiers in the city, the hearts of the people in the city, and the bloodbath in the city. When it comes to the entry of weapons and the release of horses to Nanshan, the horse road has become the first choice for communication between urban and rural areas.
In the late 1940s, the old city wall of Beijing, including the horse road, was basically complete.
In terms of water conservancy, the raceway refers to the transportation road or platform in the excavation of deep pit foundation and cofferdam (which can also be interpreted as the transportation road or platform in the excavation of slope). A drainage ditch will be set on one side of the raceway for drainage. The drainage ditch beside the raceway is used to drain the water from the cofferdam. The function of the berm is to intercept rainwater and prevent the dam slope from scouring; at the same time, it is also used for traffic, dam maintenance and observation; it is also conducive to the stability of the dam slope.
The main functions of the raceway are to ensure the stability of the slope (generally, a raceway is set when the excavation slope is higher than 10m, and others depend on the situation), to ensure the traffic during the construction period, and mainly for the traffic of personnel and small equipment. If you explain it literally, you can make such an explanation. First of all, the road is a passage or a shape similar to the passage. The horse road is different from the highway and the small path. You can understand it through the horse. The ancient horse running road should be narrow and the shape should not be too complex, which means that the shape of the horse road is generally regular (straight line or arc, etc.) and not wide. The width of the raceway is generally only 1 ~ 2m, and the 3 ~ 4m raceway is relatively wide. For example, heavy vehicles with a width of 7m can only be called construction roads or roads during construction. This explanation is only for beginners to strengthen their understanding.
