Ma Zonglian, (?)? ——1802), which is also called Lu Chen. He is from Tongcheng, Anhui Province. The father of Ma Ruichen. In the sixth year of Jiaqing (1801), he was a Jinshi, and served successively as a teacher in Hefei, Xiuning and Dongliu. Ma Zonglian had a solid nature and had no other hobbies. He only enjoyed writing and was proficient in ancient precepts and geography.

Profile

As a young man, Ma Zonglian followed his uncle Yao Nai to study poetry and ancient Chinese poetry. Because of the explanation of the Analects of Confucius in the imperial examination and the promotion in accordance with the ancient system, he was recommended by Zhu Li. Later, he traveled from Shao Jinhan, Ren Dachun and Wang Niansun, and his knowledge improved greatly. Ma Zonglian adheres to the idea of Hui school's simple learning, and thinks that the way to study is to understand the classics from the perspective of exegesis. However, due to the vast number of relevant classics, it is not easy to master, so he tried to integrate them into a series, and with sun Xingyan, Ruan Yuan, Zhu xigeng and other like-minded scholars, he compiled "Shi Nan Xuan Zhong Fu" (Qing Shi draft). Later, when Ruan Yuan visited the Jiangsu and Zhejiang academic forest, he collected the works of famous scholars and compiled the book of classics, and Ma Zonglian set the general rules for it. Ma Zonglian's academic achievements are remarkable. It is recorded in biographies of master Pu Xue in Qing Dynasty: "try to extract Du's mistakes from Zuozhuan by Tinglin, and according to the classics, all of them are accurate; huisongya extensively searched Jia, Fu and Jingjun '.
