He has been in charge of politics for six years. He is honest and benevolent. In 1619, when he was in famine, the starving people filled the ravines. Hou donated money to help him, and tried to save him from the famine. It happened that Teng County and Beiliu county were short of officials, and local elders asked for concurrent posts and were approved. Therefore, it is called "one official and three seals". When he left office, the local villagers set up a "ancestral hall of strangers" for him. After death, he entered the village. The couplet of the tomb is engraved with the following words: "virtuous talents are valued both at home and abroad; honest government is precious in ancient and modern times".
Life story
Hou Yinglin is the nephew of Hou Jiantian, a teacher of Wang Shijin, one of the top scholars in the south of China. He was upright and modest as an official. He was aware of the people's feelings. He hated corruption and made great efforts to govern the country. He also built dams and opened canals and made great contributions to the development of local agricultural production. Therefore, after his death, the local people played his achievements to the emperor. The emperor thought that he loved the people like a son and was modest in his administration, that is, he appropriated money to build a temple for him, and gave him two plaques with posthumous titles of "Xiangxian" and "Shengzhi" to hang on the memorial archway of Xiangxian temple.
Hou Yigeng was born at the end of Ming Dynasty. He once held the office of magistrate in Tengxian, Daxian and Beiliu counties of Guangxi, that is to say, he "sat in Beiliu, defended Rongxian, and served as the main hall of Tengxian and Beiliu counties of tengrong". It can be said that he had three seals in one hand. Alas, during his tenure, Hou Yinglin was honest and upright, observed the people's situation, hated corruption, made great efforts to govern, built dams and opened canals, pioneered orchid land, and made contributions to the development of local agricultural production He has done a lot of practical work and won the support and love of the local people. One year there was a drought, which was very serious. Many poor people were starving to death in the wilderness. In addition to reporting the disaster and appealing for the imperial court's rescue, Hou Yinglin tried his best to raise funds to help the local victims by returning to his hometown to sell off the land property, so that many victims struggling on the line of death could be saved. In feudal society, it is very valuable for officials to do such good deeds. Later, local people donated money to build a memorial temple for him, so that generations of descendants can remember his parents and officials. After Ying Lin's death, the local villagers reported his achievements to the emperor. The emperor thought that Ying Lin loved his people as a son and was honest in his administration. He approved the allocation of silver to build a temple for him, and gave him the posthumous titles of "Xiang Xian" and "imperial edict" to hang in the temple and on the memorial archway.
Hou Yinglin was able to serve as a magistrate in Teng, Rong and Bei counties. He was able to exert his talents to benefit the people and remain famous for centuries. This is also due to the recommendation of his uncle Hou Jiantian and his student Wang Shijin, the number one scholar of the dynasty. Wang Shijin, his favorite student, won the first place in the examination and served beside the emperor. Wang Shi was poor, and he was often subsidized and instructed by his teachers. When he entered Zhumen, he could not help sighing when he thought about his teacher's kindness. Wang Shijin's mind was detected by the emperor and asked why he sighed. Shijin explained the reason to the emperor. After hearing this, the emperor read Shijin's virtue of respecting his teacher and said, "call your teacher to Beijing to see me!" Shijin thanked long en and immediately sent someone to take Hou Jiantian to Beijing. Jiantian is an honest man who has been teaching in the countryside for a long time. He has never seen the grand scene of Beijing. When he accepted the imperial edict, he was at a loss and seemed very uncomfortable. The emperor asked with a smile, "why didn't the teacher enter today?" he was shocked and speechless. Shi Jin interrupted and said, "teacher, it's only because people are fighting for their lives. Because of stage fright, the corpse is embarrassed to see Tian in the whole process of imperial edict. Wang Shijin persuades Tian to stay in Beijing for a job. Seeing Tian Jian's refusal, he finally recommends his nephew, who is good at both crystal and science, to be selected by Shi Jin. Through Wang Shijin's recommendation, the emperor should choose Rongxian County, Tengxian county and Beiliu county magistrate. Hou Yinglin is erudite and intelligent. He lived up to the high expectations of the emperor and his predecessors. He worked hard for the people and made outstanding achievements in his official career of "three seals in one hand".
