Fengmenheng Street

Horizontal street is not long, and it is not a famous scenic spot in Suzhou, but it can be regarded as the old street with the most urban flavor of Suzhou. The morning of Hengjie comes with vegetables with dewdrops and big cake fried dough sticks with steaming heat. When you stroll around, you can hear Wu Nong's soft words and bargain gently. You can also walk into the teahouse with tiger stove and talk about national affairs with a group of Suzhou old men.

Fengmenheng street is located on the North Bank of fengmentang (fengmentang, also known as Fengxi, is located outside fengmentang. It originates from waichenghe River and flows into Jinji Lake in the East, which is the East drainage channel of waichenghe River). It starts from Xugong bridge in the West and ends at diloukou and shipaotou in the East.

Place name allusion

Outside the gate of Fengmen, it is named because of its east-west trend. In the records of Wu County of the Republic of China, the horizontal street was marked under the column of Yuanhe County, the horizontal street was marked in the pictures of Suzhou City and Wu County, and the horizontal street was marked in the pictures of Suzhou Fengmen.

The street is 690 meters long and 5 meters wide. In the 1980s, it was resurfaced with cement hexagonal pavement. In 2011, it was transformed into rectangular stone pavement. This street is the main street outside fengmenwai. The east end turns south to cross the road bridge, and the west end turns south to cross the Xugong bridge, which is fengmenxi Street (now moxie Road). It is an urban-rural trade center of fengmenfu Guoji town. Fengmen Hengjie is the only one of many famous Hengjie streets in Suzhou. Most of the buildings in Fengmen Hengjie still keep the style of Zhenhe people in the early Qing Dynasty and the late Ming Dynasty. The front street, the back River and the River Street are parallel.
