Scenic spots in the park
Ancient city wall of Ming Dynasty
From behind the Zhongshan monument, turning westward, you can see a section of the ancient city wall, about 200 meters long, meandering and extending, hidden in the jungle. It starts from xiaobeimen (now xiaobeihuayuan) in the East and ends at dabeimen (now the intersection of Jiefang North Road and Panfu Road) in the West. It is more than 1100 meters long, crossing Xiushan intermittently. It is the only Ming Dynasty city wall preserved in Guangzhou and the oldest existing one in Guangzhou. In the early Ming Dynasty, Zhu Liangzu guarded Guangzhou and built it in 1380, which has a history of more than 600 years. This section of the city wall is the historical heritage of Guangzhou city wall. Together with Zhenhai tower and the bell tower behind the five immortals temple, it is regarded as one of the three major ground monuments in Guangzhou in the early Ming Dynasty.
Zhenhai building
Zhenhai building is known as the first scenic spot in Lingnan. Zhenhai building is called "five storey building" because of its five storey height. This building was built in 1380 by Zhu Liangzu, the Marquis of Yongjia. It was originally named "Wanghai building" and later named "Zhenhai building", which means to be a powerful coastal town.
It was changed into Guangzhou Museum in 1956.
There is an interesting legend about the construction of Zhenhai tower. After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang became emperor and established his capital in Nanjing. He once toured Zhongshan Mountain in Nanjing with Taoist Tieguan. Halfway through the tour, Tieguan pointed to the southeast and said to Zhu Yuanzhang that the sea surface of Guangdong was covered with a "King's spirit", which seemed that the "son of heaven" was about to be born. He had to build a building town in Guangzhou immediately to suppress the "dragon vein", otherwise it would become a disaster of the Ming Dynasty in the future. After hearing this, Zhu Yuanzhang quickly sent people to Guangdong to investigate and found that Yuexiu mountain in Guangzhou was full of the spirit of king. Later, Zhu Yuanzhang issued an imperial edict, ordering Zhu Liangzu, the Yongjia Marquis who guarded Guangzhou, to build a building on the mountain to suppress Wang Qi. Therefore, Zhu Liangzu built the Zhenhai tower on Yuexiu mountain, which is "tower like, tower like".
Zhenhai building is the most intact, the most powerful and the most ethnic ancient building in Guangzhou. It is 28 meters high and 31 meters wide, with a total of five floors. The first and second floors are made of red sandstone stones. Brick walls are built on more than three floors. The external walls are reduced layer by layer, like buildings and towers. The red walls and green tiles are simple and unique. In front of the building stands a pair of two meter high red sandstone stone lions carved in the Ming Dynasty. Qu Dajun, a poet in the early Qing Dynasty, once praised the Zhenhai building as "a grand sight, but a grand monument of Wuling". During the Qing Dynasty, Zhenhai tower was the tallest building in Guangzhou. On the top of the building, you can see the Pearl River and Baiyun Mountain.
