Nanjing No.1 middle school, located in Qinhuai District of Nanjing, is a national model high school and a national civilized campus

It is a key middle school in Jiangsu Province, a model school in Jiangsu Province and a four-star high school in Jiangsu Province. It is the first public middle school in Nanjing.

Nanjing No.1 middle school was founded in 1907. It was named Chongwen school at first, and then changed its name to Nanjing No.1 Middle School in 1949.

As of January 2014, Nanjing No.1 middle school covers an area of more than 32000 square meters, with a greening area of more than 12000 square meters and a greening coverage rate of 37.5%.

According to the information of China Education Network in November 2018, there are 49 classes in Nanjing No.1 middle school, with more than 2500 students; there are 230 teaching staff, including 76 senior teachers, 16 provincial super teachers, 7 provincial senior teachers, 5 provincial "333" project training objects and 1 provincial famous teacher.

Historical evolution

In 1907, sun Shaoyun and other three squires founded Chongwen school, which was the former site of shujiandao and xihuayuan of Jiangning government in Qing Dynasty and the predecessor of Nanjing No.1 middle school. Soon after, Siyi school (founded in 1903) was incorporated.

In 1927, the school changed its name to "capital central experimental school". Mr. Cai Yuanpei inscribed the inscription of "commemorating the opening of the school", and the school became the first public middle school in Nanjing.

In 1933, the school changed its name to Nanjing No.1 middle school.

In 1937, the war of resistance against Japan broke out, and some teachers and students moved to the West. Together with the teachers and students from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces, national No.2 Middle School was established.

In 1945, the school was restored to its original site.

After the founding of new China in 1949, the school changed its name to Nanjing No.1 middle school.

In 1953, Nanjing No.1 middle school was rated as the first batch of key middle schools in Jiangsu Province.

In 1998, the school officially implemented the "middle school tutorial system".

In 2000, the school was rated as a national model high school in China and a model school in Jiangsu Province.

In 2004, the school was awarded the first batch of four-star high schools in Jiangsu Province.

In November 2017, the school was rated as China's national civilized campus.

The astronomical hall has astronomical telescopes with different optical systems, prominence mirrors and astronomical observation CCD equipment resources, which provide conditions for students to carry out astronomical observation and explore the mysteries of the universe;

The school canteen has three restaurants, about 1000 seats;

The dormitory has four floors, two for boys and two for girls, with 280 beds in total. It is equipped with air conditioning, shared water heater, shower room, toilet and other public facilities.

In 2018, 538 students from Nanjing No.1 middle school participated in the college entrance examination, and 482 students (including sports, art, studying abroad, etc.) participated in the first and second courses, with a rate of nearly 100%.

The first edition of the school emblem of Nanjing No.1 middle school was designed by President Li Qinglan in 1927. It consists of three parts: No.1 middle school, circle and inverted triangle. The three corners of the inverted triangle represent "wisdom, benevolence and bravery" respectively. Wisdom, benevolence and bravery are the three elements of military spirit put forward by Dr. Sun Yat sen in the period of the Republic of China, and are also the three virtues advocated by Confucianism based on the world. The school logo design highlights the educational goal of "wisdom, benevolence and bravery" of Nanjing No.1 middle school, and practices the Confucian thought of "learning is close to wisdom, practicing is close to benevolence, and knowing shame is close to bravery".

New school emblem

The new edition of the school emblem of Nanjing No.1 middle school changes the closed structure of the inverted triangle with a ring into an open triangle inside the ring, and moves the inverted triangle down to break through the shackles of the outer ring, implying that the No.1 General of Nanjing will inherit the tradition with a more open mind and innovative courage, respect literature for distance, seek truth and innovate, and cultivate modern citizens with sound personality and innovative quality. The new school emblem perfectly combines the steel triangle with the flexible ring, highlighting the management concept of humanistic care, combining hardness and softness, and building a harmonious campus. The new school emblem takes the circle as the basic shape, the main part, "Nanjing No.1 Middle School" font in the middle is set from the school name written by Mr. Zhao Puchu, the upper part is mounted with rough and vigorous English font, the lower part of the number "1907.11.1" is the founding time of the school; the three are integrated, implying that the long history tradition of No.1 middle school and modern civilization come down in one continuous line, and the local and international integration are interlinked. In the outer part, the circle composed of olive leaves is an eternal symbol of fairness, peace, culture and education. The circle of stars represents tens of thousands of outstanding students cultivated by Nanjing No.1 middle school. The new school emblem has dark blue as the background color and gold as the background color. Dark blue represents the heavy historical precipitation, vast as the universe, all embracing; deep as the sea, embracing all rivers. Gold symbolizes sunshine, which means that the students are vigorous and enterprising. The two are matched, solemn and elegant, reflecting the unique temperament of the century one middle school.
