flag raising ceremony
There was no flagpole or flag raising ceremony in Jinlianhua square. In September 2000, in order to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China, the Macao SAR government, referring to the practice of the flag raising ceremony at the Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong, placed two flagpoles on the square. The flag raising ceremony of Jinlianhua square was held for the first time on October 1, 2000. Since then, it has become an official celebration of the national day of the people's Republic of China and the anniversary of Macao's handover of power.
The flag raising ceremony of Jinlianhua square is held at 8 am and the flag lowering ceremony is held at 6 pm every day. The flag raising and lowering ceremony was performed by six uniformed special police officers. When the flag raising ceremony is in progress, the National Anthem of the people's Republic of China will be played on site, but not when the flag lowering ceremony is in progress.
On the national day of the people's Republic of China and the anniversary of the handover of Macao's political power, all the principal officials of the Macao SAR government, the president of the Legislative Council, the head of the Central People's Government in Macao and the commander of the Chinese people's Liberation Army in Macao will gather at the Golden Lotus Square to attend the flag raising ceremony. At 8 am, the special police and security forces in ceremonial uniforms, including 10 special police officers, 4 flag raisers and the silver band of the public security police station, were in charge of the flag raising ceremony. After the flag raising ceremony, the ceremony will be held in front of the officiating guests. If the day is the national day of the people's Republic of China, the ceremony will be cancelled because the chief executive of Macao will preside over the starting ceremony of the international running day. In addition, the state leaders of the people's Republic of China will not attend the flag raising ceremony during their visit to Macao, which is consistent with the practice of Hong Kong. Rehearsals are usually held in the square before the two special days.
On the morning of October 1, 2018, the Macao SAR government held a grand flag raising ceremony in Jinlianhua square. At 8 o'clock sharp, the Macao police silver band played the magnificent national anthem, and the whole audience stood in silence. The scene personnel sang "March of the volunteers" with the melody of the band. In the ceremony, the bright five-star red flag and the Macao Special Administrative Region flag rose slowly with the rising sun.
Torch relay
At 4:05 p.m. on May 3, 2008, there was a sea of people in the Golden Lotus Square of Macao. With the arrival of the eighth torchbearer Zeng zhannan, the atmosphere at the scene reached boiling point. Thousands of citizens waved the national flag and the flag of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and the cries of "come on, China", "come on, Beijing" and "come on, Olympics" resounded everywhere.
On the isolation belt around the square, on the lamp posts on both sides of the street, the Beijing Olympic flag in Chinese and English, the Fuwa billboard holding the "auspicious cloud" torch, and the banners lighting passion and passing dreams are interwoven into colorful exercises, which add notes to people's passion.
The enthusiasm of the local people to actively support the Beijing Olympic Games and welcome the Olympic torch relay in Macao is high. The local people are eager to sign up for the Olympic torch cheering team. 20000 Chinese national flags, Macao SAR Regional flags and Beijing Olympic Games flags have already been distributed. Many of the more than 3000 local people spontaneously bought national flags and regional flags and went to the square to welcome the Beijing Olympic flame.
The Golden Lotus stands in the center of the square, and banners and slogans supporting the Beijing Olympic Games and welcoming the Olympic flame are hung on the buildings outside the square. Among them, a huge spray painted slogan with "holy fire to Macao" is hanging from the roof to the ground, which is very eye-catching and spectacular.
The 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing is a centennial event of China. As Macao citizens of the Special Administrative Region, everyone cherishes this opportunity to witness history, and personally feels the glory and joy brought by the event by participating in the torch relay.
