Construction process
Plan presentation
In his 2002 policy address to Macao, the then chief executive of Macao, Ho Hau Wah, proposed to cultivate the awareness and promotion of Macao's youth, to enhance Macao residents' participation in the popularization of science and technology, and to "let the youth broaden their horizons in a relaxed and pleasant environment and appreciate the incredible Secrets of science". Therefore, he intended to build a science park with the purpose of education in Macao It also has the idea of science and technology exhibition.
In order to strengthen the development of Macao's tourism and gambling industry, the Macao government sent the Macao Foundation to the United States in March 2002 to invite international famous architects I.M. Pei and Bayes architects to design the building for Macao science and Technology Museum. The Macao Science Museum, which is organized by the Macao Foundation, is a science museum with international standards. In 2002, the Macao Foundation and the SAR government sent representatives to the United States to invite I.M. Pei to draw a blueprint. Lin Jincheng, executive member of the foundation, later recalled that Mr. Pei had strong Chinese feelings and national feelings. He was moved by the sincerity of Macao and gladly took over the project.
Design
As the Macao Science Museum hopes to have its own architectural features similar to that of the Hong Kong Space Museum, I.M. Pei and his son, Li Zhong, visited Macao in late 2004 for investigation and design. I.M. Pei's delegation mainly visited the sightseeing floor on the 63rd floor of Macao sightseeing tower to discuss the landscape, transportation, geography, etc. of Macao Science Museum and the feasibility with relevant departments of Macao government. I.M. Pei also proposed the site selection of Macao Science Museum. He proposed the site selection of Macao Science Museum on the sea surface opposite Macao Cultural Center, and his proposal was also successful With the permission of Macao authorities, he wrote a sketch for Macao Science Museum.
On July 3, 2002, Wu Rongke, chairman of the Macao Foundation, and other members of the delegation went to the United States to sign two design and architectural design contracts for the Macao science museum with I.M. Pei and Pei's architects. They also studied the traffic, reclamation and other technical issues of the site. On September 26 of the same year, on behalf of I.M. Pei and Pei's architectural affairs, Pei Lizhong went to Macao and Finance Bureau to formally sign two service contracts for conceptual design and architectural design of Macao science museum with Macao Foundation. On February 26 of the following year, the Macao Foundation approved the design of the Macao Science Museum.
In the first ten days of December 2005, the Macao government officially reclaimed 62000 square meters of sea for the construction of the Macao Science Museum at the Macao Cultural Center; on October 19 of the next year, the main building project of the Macao Science Museum officially started
.
Opening ceremony

Museum logo description
Macao Science Museum
The logo design competition of Macao Science Museum sponsored by Yan Jun Design Co., Ltd. was evaluated by the jury. The design of Yan Jun Design Co., Ltd. was the best one, and was confirmed as the "final adoption Award" by the organizer.
The judges of the competition include Mr. Pei Lizhong, President of Bayes architecture, Mr. Jin Daiqiang, a famous graphic designer in Hong Kong, Mr. Wang Yuefei, academic member of Shenzhen Graphic Design Association, Mr. Chen Hancai, associate professor of Art College of Macao Polytechnic Institute, and Mr. Feng Wenwei, President of Macao Designers Association.
The design adopts a three-dimensional perspective, which not only presents the main architectural form of Macao Science Museum, but also skillfully draws out the internal and external sides of the structure with a single line, fully expressing the mission of Macao science museum to show the essence and laws behind various scientific phenomena to the public. The simple matching of lines not only looks like a book that is being opened and spreading knowledge to the public, but also brings illusion to the visual sense, sometimes producing two different shapes from top to bottom and sometimes from bottom to top. The design has the double visual effect of unfolding and rotating on the left and right sides, which represents that the Macao science museum shows the development and application of science and technology to the public from multiple angles.
Logo design
The logo of Macao science museum is now designed for public solicitation. The award for the design was announced in May 2008. The selected logo is clear and concise, highlighting the characteristics and aesthetic feeling of the main building of the Macao Science Museum in the design concept of I.M. Pei, which is easy to identify and understand. The combination of color and line also ingeniously forms a three-dimensional perspective space, which makes the graphics have the dual visual effect of expanding and rotating to the left and right, representing that the Macao science museum is presented to the public from multiple angles The development and application of science and technology.

The Macao science museum project covers an area of 62000 square meters with a cost of Macao $337 million. It is composed of an inclined cone, a hemisphere and a rhombic base. The buildings are exhibition hall, planetarium and Conference Center. Among them, the exhibition hall covers an area of 3600 square meters, with 14 exhibition areas; the planetarium covers an area of 650 square meters; and the conference center covers an area of 5000 square meters, with multi-functional venues and outdoor exhibition areas that can accommodate more than 600 people. Macao science museum is divided into two main buildings: the main building of the science museum and the conference center building of the science museum.
Objective application
Wu Rongke, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Macao Foundation, said that after the opening of the Macao Science Museum, it can be used as a place for young people to popularize science in Macao, providing them with a relaxed and pleasant place to study and play. At the same time, with the concept of moderate diversification of Macao's economy, it can provide a happy place for small tourists to stay in Macao and help tourism development.
This important construction project has aroused a lot of imagination in the new generation of Macao. According to local media reports, children hope to set up a special space zone here, and even build weightless equipment. They hope to answer with robots, and it's better to play science fiction movies and hold regular science competitions. They say "after the science museum is completed, you must visit it.".
Wu Rongke said the museum, supported by the China Aerospace foundation, will show the Shenzhou spacecraft model to the public at a ratio of one to one. Wu Rongke said that the most attractive exhibition of the science museum is the Shenzhou spacecraft model composed of orbital module, re-entry module and thruster, which is the most advanced spacecraft exhibition in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia so far. Visitors can also understand the flying experience of astronauts dynamically through a simulator. In addition, the Macao science museum displays five intelligent robots, which can perform complex movements such as lifting and pulling objects; its planetarium is a 15 meter diameter inclined hemispherical screen, and the audience can enjoy the three-dimensional images of freely shuttling the universe and stars after wearing special glasses.
Wu Rongke specially introduced to the reporter that Macao Science Museum has an advantage that is hard to find all over the world - tourists or citizens can get to the science museum within 20 minutes from any place in Macao, and it will become a highly utilized Museum.
