Qianlong ancient well
Qianlong ancient well is located in Gaochun old street, Gaochun District, Nanjing City, also known as "zhongjiejing". It was built in 1525, the fourth year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty, and has a history of nearly 500 years. The diameter of the well head is 0.55 meters, the original well depth is 30 meters, and the current well depth is 6.3 meters.
Historical evolution
The Qianlong ancient well, which was built in 1525, has a history of nearly 500 years.
According to Gaochun county annals, in 1523, there was a severe drought in the second year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. There was no rain for several months. Streams and rivers dried up and the bottom of the lake cracked. It was feasible for people to walk. The next year, there was a severe drought, and it was very difficult for the people to drink water. In order to solve the problem of drinking water, Liu Qidong, then Gaochun county magistrate, mobilized the people of the whole county to dig a well in the south of the East Book House of Xuegong. He fought day and night for more than half a month, and finally dug and built a well as deep as five feet. Because the construction was successful, Liu Qidong was so happy that he named the well Dacheng.
During this period, because the well was blocked by mud, two dredging operations were carried out in March of the 14th year of Daoguang (1834) and the first year of Guangxu (1879). Therefore, the water of the well is always clear and clean, and becomes a good drink for people.
In 1975, a mass patriotic health campaign was launched, and the well was dredged and rebuilt with the investment of the county and town construction department. Later, because the residents generally used tap water, the well was slightly quiet, but there were still many people using well water. In the cold winter of March 9, the well water is warm, and people come here to wash rice and vegetables; in the hot summer, although there are air-conditioners and refrigerators, people still like to use the well water to cool the melons and fruits. After the reform and opening up, Qianlong Gujing has become an ancient scenic spot, which makes Gaochun old street famous.
Legends and anecdotes
Qianlong ancient well, which is famous in Chunxi ancient town, was originally called Dacheng well. Later, because Emperor Qianlong had drunk the water from this well when he went to Jiangnan three times, people called it Qianlong ancient well.
It is said that when Emperor Qianlong visited the south of the Yangtze River three times, he visited Gaochun. He was infected by the beautiful scenery of Gaochun's lakes, mountains and rivers, and happily wrote down "the holy land of the south of the Yangtze River". When Qianlong drank green tea from Qingshan, he was full of praise. He asked the magistrate: tea comes from Qingshan and water comes from Dacheng well. Where is the well? The magistrate replied: only a hundred steps away. Emperor Qianlong came to Dacheng well, lifted a bucket of water, drank two mouthfuls of water, even said good water, and put his hands into the bucket to scrub for a while. The news quickly spread all over the county, and also to the nearby shiliba village. People wanted to taste the well water that Emperor Qianlong had drunk. For a time, there was a long line at the side of Dacheng well. As time went by, there were rope grooves on the well circle. I don't know when and who changed the name of Dacheng well to Qianlong well.
