geographical environment
Located in the north central part of Taiwan Island, Xueba National Park was established on July 1, 1981. It is the Fifth National Park in Taiwan, and can be traced back to the second gaotaruke National Park established during the Japanese occupation. In the park, the valleys are crisscross, the terrain is complex, the scenery is magnificent, the climate temperature difference is large, and the peak stream landscape is magnificent. The main peak of snow mountain ranges from 760 meters to 3886 meters above sea level, with an elevation difference of more than 3000 meters, and the natural resources are extremely rich. The park is bounded by the valley edge line of snow mountain range, starting from luoyewei mountain in the East, ending from Xishui mountain in the west, and ending at yuluowei mountain in the south With a total area of about 76850 hectares, it includes Guanwu recreation area (Wufeng Township, Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County), Xuejian recreation area (Tai'an Township, Miaoli County) and Wuling recreation area (Heping District, Taichung City). With Xueshan mountain and Dabajian mountain as the main axis, Xueba National Park has as many as 51 high mountain types, belonging to the Mountain National Park.
The valleys of qijiawan stream, nameless stream and Wuling stream are in the form of canyons. On the narrow valley between snow mountain and luoyewei mountain, four terraces are cut out. On the side of qijiawan stream near luoyewei mountain, the valley wall is steep. Xueba National Park is surrounded by mountains with magnificent landscape. The elevation difference is more than 3000 meters. Taking the snow mountain as the center, it radiates many ridges and veins around. However, it can be seen that the distant and near ridges stretch gently, with distinct layers and high terrain. Among them, the snow mountain and Dabajian mountain are the most representative.
The main peak of the snow mountain is located in the middle of the snow mountain range, with a height of 3886 meters. It is the highest point of the mountain range and the second highest peak in Taiwan. It is also known as the "five mountains of Taiwan" together with Yushan, Nanhu Dashan, xiugulan and beidawu. Daba Jianshan is 3492 meters long. It is known as "the peak of the century" and has a magnificent appearance. Together with the central Jianshan and Dafen Jianshan, it is called "Taiwan's three peaks".
Xueba National Park is famous for its rugged terrain and natural wilderness scenery, including all the important mountains in the snow mountain range. In addition, this area is also the birthplace of the main rivers in North Central Taiwan. The mountain terrain is eroded and cut by streams, forming a special landscape.
In terms of climate, Xueba National Park spans the sub frigid zone, cold temperate zone and warm temperate zone, so the vegetation is quite complex. A variety of plants breed rich wild animal resources. The most representative is the national treasure fish - "Sakura salmon". The rest, such as Taiwan black bear, imperial pheasant and Taiwan salamander, are very rare endemic animals in Taiwan.
Ecological resources
The ecological resources of Xueba National Park: Xueba National Park contains complete and rich animal, plant and human resources. According to the investigation, there are 1103 species of vascular plants, 61 species of rare plants, such as Taiwan brush tree, dimuhua Impatiens, snow mountain green edge and other plants; the animal part is even more abundant, including 32 species of mammals, 97 species of birds, 14 species of reptiles, 6 species of amphibians, 16 species of Danshui fish and 89 species of reptiles Among them, there are fewer and fewer rare animals, such as Oncorhynchus Sakura, Taiwan black bear, imperial pheasant, blue belly pheasant, Taiwan prickly ash fish, Papilio Laticauda and Papilio exalta, and precious wild animals, such as Taiwan macaque, mountain Qiang, Taiwan long maned goat, Taiwan wild boar and water deer. It is a nature outdoor classroom for deep tourism and entertainment.
Plant landscape: the forest facies in this area can be divided into three categories: plantation, broad-leaved forest and mixed forest
Forestation land: most of them are the products of Japanese occupation period and postwar. The plant species include beech, Cryptomeria fortunei, Cunninghamia lanceolata, two leaf pine, five leaf pine, broad leaf tree and bamboo forest.
Broad leaved forest: the composition of the species is more complex. It is usually divided into Quercus zone and achilus Castanopsis zone according to the altitude, and its structure usually has three to four layers.
Mixed forest: mixed with broad-leaved and deciduous tree species, mainly including Acer rubra, Acer Acer, Acer glauca, Quercus variabilis, Populus formosana, cypress, Cunninghamia lanceolata, etc., while herbs are Miscanthus floribundus or alpine awn. There are also some rare plants in the area, such as Impatiens balsamina and cowpea head. There are 596 species of vascular plants recorded in this area, among which the rare resources are taiwanhuangshan, conghuabairiqing, Schisandra chinensis, Cinnamomum cassia, Cinnamomum cassia, Elaeagnus angustifolia, taiwanshu, taiwanapple, Miaoli wild cowpea, quandouque, huaxiangshu, aiyuzi, taiwanshan camellia, hongzhushuimu, xueshandongqing, alishanfengteng, Illicium, alishanshidagonglao and Dimu There are 28 species of Impatiens balsamina, Impatiens flaviflora, Anoectochilus formosana, Cymbidium xiaolujiaolan, Cymbidium grandiflorum, Cymbidium alishanensis, Cymbidium sijiensis, Cymbidium formosana, Cymbidium kandelis and Cymbidium goeringii.

There are still a large number of fresh animal traces such as long maned goat, Taiwan wild boar, Taiwan Mountain Qiang, Taiwan Macaca mulatta, and the footprints of Taiwan water deer, which are rare in the wild. Along the beikengxi ancient road, there are many animal traces, such as Taiwan wild boar, Taiwan Mountain Qiang, Taiwan macaque, etc., but there are also Taiwan black bears in spring and summer. Among them, the Taiwan black bear is an endangered species listed in the wildlife conservation law. The number of Taiwan water deer in the wild is also very low. The long maned goat is also a rare and precious conservation animal.
In terms of birds: there are 63 species of birds in 24 families, including 10 endemic species, 33 endemic subspecies and 29 conservation birds, among which the endangered species are blue bellied pheasant and forest carving. The top five dominant birds in the region were thrush with crown feathers, thrush with embroidered eyes, thrush with mountain red head, serval and thrush with white ears. The highest bird richness was found in the low altitude broad-leaved forest type (29 species) located in the beikengxi ancient road, the middle sea mature forest type (30 species) located in the Xuejian recreation area, and the Populus densiflora and Pinus elliottii forest type (33 species) with an altitude of about 2000 meters.

Fish: Beikeng stream is a high mountain stream in Taiwan. Many fish can't adapt to the low temperature stream environment, so there are few fish species. According to the investigation, there are two kinds of freshwater fishes in Beikeng stream, i.e. red spotted snout shrimp and tiger, Taiwan shovel jaw fish, and one kind of freshwater crab, i.e. Qingxi crab. Three species of freshwater fishes were found at the confluence of Beikeng River and Da'an river. In Meiyuan section of da'anxi River, three species of freshwater fishes were found, namely, Taiwan creeping loach, Taiwan grouper, and trachycephalus.
Insects: there are 32 orders of insects in the world, and 16 orders of insects are found in Xuejian area, accounting for 1 / 2 of the total. The results of seasonal insect species richness survey showed that the most insect species were in summer, followed by autumn and spring, followed by winter. Only two species of Coleoptera were found in the conservation area. Although there are not many species to be conserved in this area, the species and complexity of other insects are quite high, including saprophytic carnivorous, herbivorous, parasitic and predatory species, which are very complete in the ecological class.
