brief introduction
In 1983, it was approved by the people's Government of Ganzi Prefecture as the first batch of open temples. There are 10 yongzhongben temples in the county, with nearly 600 monks, including 5 living Buddhas and 7 zhongraojue. Among the 10 Yongzhong temples, Dingqing temple has the longest history. Riban temple in yueba Township, jizharezhe temple in zhongzake Township and cuotong temple in langduo township have a history of more than 1000 years. In terms of temple scale and the number of monks, Dingqing temple is the largest, which has always been known as the ancestral temple of Benbo religion in Kangba Tibetan area; manjin temple in wentuo township is second only to Dingqing temple in terms of temple scale, monks and sect reputation.
The only religion
As an ancient and primitive Buddhism in Tibetan areas, yongzhongben religion existed in dege area as early as Sui and Tang Dynasties. In the 7th century, Yongzhong Benjiao was still the only religion in dege area; at the end of the 7th century and the beginning of the 8th century, there were Dingqing temple, Rongge temple, zhongsa temple and other Benbo temples in the county. The first nine generations of the dege family, who fled to Kangbei in the early 8th century, were all believers of Benbo. They passed on the religion in Dengke and dege area from generation to generation. After the 11th century, the Ningma sect (the old sect) of Tibetan Buddhism was introduced into dege, Kadang, Gaju, and Sakya sect, and they were also introduced into dege and rapidly expanded their power, which greatly weakened the strength of Benbo religion. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Qinghai Mongolian Heshuote tribe formed a military alliance with dege chieftain, which eliminated the armed forces of ganzibaili chieftain who respected the local religion. In this war, the local religion forces in dege area were also devastated. In order to survive and develop, the remaining temples of BengBo surrendered to the rapidly expanding dege chieftain and came under the jurisdiction of dege Fawang. Since then, the successive dege chieftains have pursued a more flexible religious policy of coercion regardless of denomination. Benbo temple in the county also absorbed and integrated with various Tibetan sects in its survival and development, gradually evolved into a sect of Tibetan Buddhism, and has always maintained its sectarian power, which is second only to Ningma, Sakya, Kaju and slightly stronger than Gelug.
