Songjiang River, also known as Songxiang River and old Songxiang River, is named after the rosin (dazixiang) produced on both sides of the river. The drainage area is 1935 square kilometers, the river length is 143 kilometers, and the average river slope is 4.6 ‰. The river originates from the West foot of Baiyun peak in Fusong County, flows to the northwest and forms a comb like river network. On the right bank, it successively flows into Caozi River (with a drainage area of 383 square kilometers and a river length of 59.5 kilometers), sandaoshong River (with a drainage area of 382 square kilometers and a river length of 75 kilometers) and erdaosong River (with a drainage area of 209 square kilometers and a river length of 49.7 kilometers). After the confluence of the two Songjiang rivers, the river turns to the West and bends to the northwest of Fusong County and flows into the first Songhua River. The upper reaches of Songjiang River and its larger tributaries on the right bank belong to Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve with dense forests and no residential areas. Below Songjiang town, there are many forests and shrubs along the coast. The channel is deeply cut, with large slope, rapid flow and many shoals.
