Ancient town of Pushi
Pushi ancient town is located in the southeast of Luxi County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, on the West Bank of the middle reaches of the Yuan river. It is an important border town at the junction of Jilin and Huaihua, and is the first of the four ancient towns in Xiangxi in history.
In the heyday of Pushi ancient town, there were 3 commercial streets, 12 city gates, 13 provincial (local) guildhalls, more than 20 freight terminals, 45 alleys, hundreds of fire sealed walls "yinziwu", as well as ancient theater, temples and Taoist temples, workshops (land hall) and other architectural complexes.
There are 3 historic blocks, 2 historic sites and 204 historic buildings in Pushi ancient town.
In 2016, Pushi ancient town was rated as a national 4A tourist attraction.
Historical evolution
In the middle of the Southern Song Dynasty, the ancient town of Pushi, as a military gathering place, formally established military institutions.
In March of 1384, the 17th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, the Ming Fugong of Yuanling said in the records of Chenjiashan in Jiangdong, Pushi County: "there is a large collection in Luxi County, which is called Pushi.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the ancient town of Pushi became an important point of military preparation and a material distribution center in Western Hunan.
In 1739, Zhao Zhihui, the governor of Yuanling, wrote an inscription on the restoration of Fushou Hall of Pufeng temple, which said: "there is a city in the southwest of Yuanling. There are thousands of fireworks, merchants and boats on both sides of the Strait, so it is a metropolis.".
In 2015, Luxi County launched the activities of "creating 4A and applying for national protection" in Pushi ancient town, namely, creating national 4A scenic spots, applying for national cultural relics protection units, building tourist centers and parking lots, upgrading Wanhe garden, reconstructing Puyang Road and SHANGZHENG Street pipe network, implementing river embankment reconstruction, starting the construction of affordable housing community and Pushi New District ring line, accelerating the surrounding environment improvement, etc.
In August 2016, the 22nd session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress of Xiangxi Prefecture adjusted the legislative plan of the 13th National People's Congress of Xiangxi Prefecture (2013-2017), formally incorporated the "Regulations on the protection of historical and cultural towns in Pushi city of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture" into the legislative plan of Xiangxi Prefecture, and listed it as the legislative project of local laws and regulations in the legislative plan of Xiangxi Prefecture in 2016.
On March 1, 2018, the regulations on the protection and administration of famous historical and cultural towns in Pu City, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was officially implemented.

Pushi town is dominated by mountains and hills, supplemented by plains, hills and depressions. The soil is red sand and yellow soil. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with an average altitude of 128 meters. The highest point is daichaoshan in Xinbao village, with an altitude of 666.6 meters; the lowest point is Chenjiachong in Qingcao village, with an altitude of 61.3 meters.

Pushi town belongs to subtropical monsoon climate, with an annual average temperature of 16.9 ℃, rainfall of 1326 mm and frost free period of 278 days.
hydrology
There are 278 Shantang reservoirs in Pushi Town, including 32 Shangxing reservoirs. Yanmenxi reservoir, located in yanmenxi village, has a capacity of 18 million square meters and a drainage area of 72 square kilometers. It is the only medium-sized reservoir in the county. There are 43 rivers, big and small, all flowing into Yuanjiang River. The longest Puxi river is 40.1 km.

Jijia compound
Jijia courtyard, located in SHANGZHENG street of Pushi ancient town, is located in the northwest and faces southeast. The overall plan is rectangular, belonging to the fourth courtyard of Jijia (three brothers) triple courtyard. According to the research of the cultural relics department, it was built during the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. In front of the courtyard is a four Bay shop, built of brick and wood, with a depth of 58 meters. The house is composed of "three wells, three halls and twelve rooms". The firewall is more than ten feet high, which is fire-proof and windproof. The front is a three-layer parallel structure, all of which are made of stones. The door forehead is carved with auspicious words such as "about Qingfeng at home" in high relief. Lotus and vanilla are engraved on both ends. Geometric patterns are decorated around the door. The window pattern is mainly geometric, with eight immortals, characters, flowers and plants, fighting and other patterns carved in the middle.
Li's Academy
Lijia academy, located in Lijia lane, an ancient town in Pushi, is a "cellar house" with two entrances. It was built in the Jiaqing period (1796-1820). Li's Academy faces south in the north, with a rectangular plane. It was once used as a family private school. On the forehead of the gate, there is a four character forehead engraved with blue stone, which expresses the wish of Li Jiazong's school to reproduce and inherit the scholarly family. According to the investigation, when running a private school, it was not allowed to have a surname other than Li's. only Li's children were allowed to study here.
Zhou family compound
Zhou's courtyard, located in yujiaxiang, an ancient town in Pushi, is a courtyard with double doors and two entrances. There are gate, hall, main hall and back court on the central axis. In 1766, Zhou Hongchun, the ancestor of the Zhou family, moved from wushageng (now renamed Jiangkou), runantang, Fengcheng County, Jiangxi Province, to Pushi. Under the leadership of Duke Zhou Qirong, the Zhou family prospered, and established the Zhou Rongshun Buzhuang, jiudazhai workshop, nanza, tobacco and other commercial processing online stores. During the period of tongzhi (1862-1874), the compound was built in yujiaxiang, Dazheng street, Pu city.
Longevity Palace
Wanshou Palace, located in Hejie street, an ancient town in Pushi, is a three entrance courtyard style guild building. It was originally Jiangxi merchants guild hall, also known as Yuzhang hall. Wanshou Palace is located in the West and faces the East. Its plane is in the shape of "eyes". On the central axis, there are a gate, a vestibule, a hall, a main hall and a back hall. On both sides are four drop horsehead walls. The Longevity Palace was built in the early Ming Dynasty. The existing buildings are the remains of Daoguang period (1821-1850) of the Qing Dynasty. Due to the construction of flood control embankment, the gate and wharf of the Longevity Palace were occupied.
Wanhe Garden
Wanhe garden is located in jijiatou, SHANGZHENG street, an ancient town in Pushi city. It is adjacent to the kindergarten in Puzhong town in the north and the flood dike of the former site of the army prison in the south, covering an area of 120 mu. The pink lotus planted beside the prison has a flowering period of about 5 months, which belongs to ornamental lotus. Beside the lotus garden, there are ancient pavilions, Shangshang temple, tongmulong ancient tombs and three ancient wells (one of which was dug by Marshal Helong).

In March 1996, the protection project of Pushi ancient town was started.
In September 2000, the protection project of Pushi ancient town was completed.
In June 2015, Pushi Ancient Town tourist center project was launched. The total land area of the tourist center project is 18.7 hectares, of which the tourist center area is about 5.08 hectares. It can park more than 200 large buses and 800 small cars.
On January 8, 2018, the flood damage repair and reinforcement reconstruction project of Pushi ancient town flood control project started.
Honorary recognition
In 2008, "Pushi discovery" was listed as the second of the top ten archaeological discoveries in Hunan Province.
In 2010, Pushi ancient town was rated as a famous historical and cultural town in China and a key tourism town in Hunan Province.

Culture
Pushi ancient town is the birthplace of Chenhe Gaoqiang, which is known as "living fossil of Oriental Opera".
Chenhe Gao Qiang, Ta Hu chisel flowers, Pu city ancient architectural skills, Miao yarn count are listed as national and Hunan intangible cultural heritage. Yanmen ancient fort village, gaoshanping ancient post road and 50 ancient dwellings are listed as cultural relics protection units in Hunan Province, among which Pushi ancient dwellings have been declared as national key cultural relics protection units.
