Introduction to the library
On both sides of the gate of the memorial hall is a couplet written by Yuan Shiqing, the national representative of the "five good families", which reads: "blood is thicker than water, the light of the road is mediocre, the land of the king is lost, the sovereignty is lost, the history of the Qing Dynasty is lamented and the words of death are admonished; the leaves are rooted, the Republic is prosperous, the country is shameful, the garden is short of mirrors, and the return of Hong Kong tells the loyal soul." On the lintel of the second door of the memorial hall is a black gold plaque "Wang Ding Memorial Hall" inscribed by Comrade Cheng Antong, governor of Shaanxi Province; on both sides of the door is a couplet written by he Zhongxiu, a famous calligrapher of the county: "don't pay homage to the king at the end of the festival, but you can't be loyal to the king at the end of the life.".
As soon as you enter the gate of WANGDING memorial hall, there is a 3.6-meter-high half body standing statue of WANGDING in the middle. The statue is in bronze color, and is carved by Wang Tianren, President of Shaanxi Provincial Sculpture Institute, a national artist. It has a vivid look and a great image. He wore a long coat, a royal dress, a pearl, and his right hand to press his case. He pointed his fingers in his joints. He was holding his fist and frowning at his left arm. He looked at Lin Zexu's Humen cigarette. It seemed to be a great hatred for the invaders and destructed opium and anger. Behind the statue, there is a tablet about Wang Ding, which was donated by the masses to build a memorial hall. Wang Ding's life story is displayed on one side of the center, and the audience lounge and souvenir department are set on the other side. In the upper room, there are Wang Ding's genealogy, letters, manuscripts and relics, the birthday plaque "Jinggong Duhu" written by Emperor Daoguang for Wang Ding's 70th birthday, the wooden plaque "Xianxiao Kefeng" written by Wang Ding for his family's aunt Wu Ruren, as well as the ink inscriptions "jianjiandi", "Weilan bookstore", "Huaiyin Shanfang" and "Cihui Huiyin" written by Lin Zexu during his stay in Pucheng. In the exhibition room of Wang Ding's life story, the historical achievements of Wang Ding's life are vividly displayed through a large number of words, photos, charts and objects.
Wang Ding
brief introduction
Wang Ding, whose name is Dingjiu, was born in the 33rd year of Qianlong (1768) of the Qing Dynasty and died in the late night of April 8th (June 8th, 1842) in the 22nd year of Daoguang. Wang Ding was poor when he was young, and he often had poor food and clothing, but he was able to study hard, and finally became the second and third Jinshi in the first year of Jiaqing. He has successively served as a scholar of Imperial Academy, an editor, a scholar of Imperial Academy, a scholar of Imperial Academy, a scholar of Imperial Academy, a minister of rites, households, officials, workers and criminals, a minister of household affairs, a governor of Henan, a governor of Zhili, a minister of military aircraft, and a Bachelor of Dongge University. He has made great achievements in reforming River affairs, salt administration and rehabilitating unjust imprisonment.
Life story
During the Opium War, he fought hard against negotiation and surrender to cede Hong Kong. In 1842, when Lin Zexu was sent to Yili after being convicted of the Anti Japanese War, the Yellow River burst at Xiangfu (i.e. nianhe Kaifeng) in Henan Province, and the great current went straight to Kaifeng provincial wall, inundating the eastern part of Henan Province, Jiangsu Province and the northern part of Anhui Province. Wang Ding went out to the governor of Donghe River to supervise the estuary of saihe river. Because he was in favor of Lin Zexu's Anti Japanese War, he deeply sympathized with his misfortune. On the ground that he was familiar with the situation of river works, shangshuzou left Lin Zexu to assist in river works. After the completion of river control, he invited Lin Zexu to be the governor of the river. At that time, the invaders of the British Empire committed crimes on the sea for the second time. For fear of offending foreigners, Emperor Daoguang insisted on sending Lin Zexu to Xinjiang. Wang Ding, unable to return to heaven, had no choice but to send the river dry, weeping for good-bye.
After returning to Beijing, Wang Ding, regardless of his age and illness, told Emperor Daoguang about the long-term harm to the nation of ceding Hong Kong to sign an agreement, and denounced mu zhang'a, the leader of the compromise group and the chief military aircraft minister, as the contemporary Qin Hui and Yan Song. Because Emperor Daoguang had made up his mind to compromise and seek peace, Wang Ding was determined to "return to heaven with corpse remonstrance" when the court remonstrance and crying remonstrance failed. In the late night of June 8, 1842, he hanged himself in Yuanmingyuan Garden in the hope that "treaties should not be lightly allowed, bad laws should not be lightly opened, Mu should not be allowed, and Lin should not be abandoned." he gave his life to oppose the ceding of Hong Kong and sign unequal treaties. 81 days after Wang Ding's death, the Treaty of Nanjing was signed. Hong Kong people left their motherland for 155 years.
When Lin Zexu heard the news of Wang Ding's body remonstrance, he was very sad. He wrote two poems called "weeping for Wang Wenke Gong", praising Wang Ding's "heartbroken and confidant with thousands of tears, sprinkling on the wind of Pingsha.". In 1845, when Lin Zexu was called back to Beijing, he went to Pucheng to pay a visit to Wang Ding's former residence, and went to Wang's tomb Yingying to pay a memorial to Wang Ding. In 1864, when he was the governor of Shaanxi Province, he was also the governor of Wang Ding for three months.
evaluate
Although Wang Ding's remonstrance did not achieve the goal of protecting Lin Zexu and Hong Kong, his courage and uprightness, which are not afraid of the powerful and upright, are always worthy of people's memory and memory. The establishment of WANGDING memorial hall is not only the best memorial to Wang Ding, but also an important place for patriotic education.
