legend
It is said that there is a young monk in Dayu Temple who sincerely understands the Tao. The days pass like flowing water. The young monk and he read the Buddhist scriptures quickly, feeling that his ears are bright and his wits are born.
One day, the abbot of the temple suddenly announced that he would choose a wise successor from the temple. When the little monk got the news, he made more efforts to read Buddhist scriptures. Every night he held the candle and read at night, and the crowing of chickens stopped. Half a year later, the little monk felt that his way did not advance, but retreated. The original wisdom also became illusory. He felt very strange, so he told the abbot of the temple about his confusion. Instead of directly solving his doubts, the abbot whispered the Buddha's name all his life and said to him with a smile, "tomorrow, you and I will go to the small town at the foot of the mountain to buy some melons for Mr. Wang. I will use them as an antidote for summer heat."
The next day, the abbot took the little monk to the melon stall of old man Wang. Picked out a few delicious melons. See Wang Laohan hand holding melon, squint an eye to report a weight: "a total of two Jin six Liang." "What?" The little monk was surprised and looked at Old Man Wang with unbelievable eyes. Mr. Wang smoothed his beard and said with a smile, "I've sold melons for more than ten years, and I've never missed them. If you don't believe it, there's a scale beside you to weigh yourself. " Unconvinced, the little monk put the melon on the scale. It was just two Jin and six Liang.
At this time, the abbot, who had been silent, went forward, pointed to a melon and said, "benefactor, I only want this melon. If you estimate it accurately, I will give you this ingot of silver." With that, the abbot took out a ingot of white silver from his body, which was quite double. Next to buy melon a look at this side out of the strange things are surrounded up, a force to shout for the old man to agree. Two liang silver is enough to buy a whole load of melon, and it doesn't take much effort. Of course, old man Wang agreed. He quickly held his breath and carefully lifted the melon. But this time he didn't report the number immediately. After a while, people urged him. I saw him a teeth, red face reported the number: one Jin three Liang. The abbot asked the little monk to weigh it with a scale again. The little monk was silly: it was five Liang per kilo, but it was two liang less. Everyone felt sorry for old man Wang.
Back at the temple, the young monk asked the abbot why. The abbot sighed and said: "just a ingot of silver, he was disturbed by the immediate interests, so he lost his usual mentality and persistent judgment of things, and could not play the ordinary level." The young monk suddenly realized that he would practice meditation from then on. Ten years later, he became the famous abbot of Dayu temple.
