Songshan Mountain, known as Zhongyue mountain, is one of the five famous mountains in China, and also the holy land of Quanzhen sect of Taoism. It is bounded by the Shaolin River in the middle, Taishi mountain in the East and Shaoshi mountain in the west, which stretches on the South Bank of the Yellow River. It is not only an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, but also a scenic spot in China and a World Geopark. There are many famous temples on the mountain. Songyang academy, one of the four academies, is located here.

The ancient Songshan Mountain, which started 3.6 billion years ago, can be called the ancestor of all mountains. It has the geological wonder of "five generations together", and is known as "natural geological museum" and "geoscience encyclopedia". There are the oldest Han Dynasty ritual architecture in China - the three towers of Han Dynasty, the ancestral hall of Zen Buddhism - Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Taoism - Zhongyue temple, one of the four academies in Song Dynasty - Songyang academy, the earliest brick Pagoda in China - Songyue Temple Pagoda, the oldest and most intact astronomical architecture in China - star watching platform, etc, The connotation is broad and profound. Songshan scenic area consists of Shaolin scenic area, Zhongyue scenic area and Songyang scenic area.

Shaolin scenic spot

Songshan Shaolin scenic spot is a world famous tourist attraction, which is one of the first 5A scenic spots announced by the National Tourism Administration. The scenic area is rich in cultural landscape and peculiar in natural landscape. Cultural attractions are concentrated within 2.18 square kilometers of the core area of the scenic area, mainly including the Zen ancestral court, which is known as "the best temple in the world", the Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, the Tallinn, which has the largest scale and the largest number in China, the stone que, Shaoshi que, martial arts hall, Dharma cave, Chuzu temple, erzu temple, Shifang temple and mannatai. The natural landscape is concentrated in Sanhuang village of Shaoshi mountain, which integrates the three famous orogenic and land making movements of "Songyang, Zhongyue and Shaolin" in Precambrian period. It is the best viewing place of Songshan World Geopark, with more than 40 representative landscapes, such as monkey watching the sky, tiger roaring in Yunfeng, sunset in yuzhai and autumn in Shaoshi.

According to the topography of the temple site, from the end of Shaolin, through Shaolin stone road, through Shaolin bridge and into the mountain gate, there are nine well-defined terraces. The temple rises up against the mountain and forms a stepped building, with a depth of 180 meters in front and back, a width of 68 meters for the main seat and two side corridors, and a building area of nearly 20000 square meters. The temple building complex is very large. The temple has a very complete drainage system and water supply facilities installed with special tile tubes. There are firewalls around the temple, and there are ancillary buildings outside the walls. It is very magnificent. It is a large Zen temple with high specifications. About 100 meters away from the southwest corner of the temple, there is a stable covering an area of more than 800 square meters. It is said that it was the place where monks circled horses in those days. Up to now, villagers still call it a stable. In addition, there is a small hillside about 300 meters south of Shaolin Temple, where the monks put their horses. Because the horses were often injured by tigers and leopards, it is called Tiger biting horse hillside.

With the approval of the State Administration of cultural relics, the Fuqing Shaolin Temple site has been excavated by an archaeological team jointly formed by Fujian Province and Fuzhou City since July 1995. A large number of Shaolin Temple relics have been unearthed, which fully verifies that the site is the Shaolin Temple recorded in historical records.

Zhongyue scenic spot

The ritual architecture complex composed of taishique and Zhongyue temple has unparalleled historical value. It is not only an excellent example of space treatment of ancient Chinese temple buildings, but also a historical witness of ancient mountain worship. Zhongyue sacrificial architecture has influenced the formation of the other four sacrificial architectures in China. Zhongyue temple is the most complete and largest architectural complex among the five mountains, which basically retains the regulations after the Qing Dynasty. There are 39 halls, palaces, towers, pavilions and other buildings in the temple, with nearly 400 rooms. Taishique is located on the central axis more than 600 meters south of tianzhongge in Zhongyue temple. It is the Shinto que of Taishi temple, the predecessor of Zhongyue temple. It was built in the fifth year of emperor an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (A.D. 118). It was built by LV Chang, the mayor of Yangcheng at that time. Together with Shaoshi Que and Qimu que, it is called the three que of Zhongyue Han Dynasty.

Songyang scenic spot

Songyang Academy was built in the eighth year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (484 AD). It was a place for Buddhist activities and was named Songyang temple. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, it became a place for Taoist activities. Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu used it twice as a palace. During the Northern Song Dynasty, it became a famous place for education. Famous Confucians such as Fan Zhongyan, Cheng Yi, Cheng Hao and Sima Guang all gave lectures here. Part of Sima Guang's historical masterpiece Zizhitongjian was completed in the Academy. These activities not only made Songyang academy the first of the four academies in the Northern Song Dynasty, but also made Songyang academy one of the birthplaces of Neo Confucianism in the Song Dynasty.
