Qin belongs to Kuaiji Prefecture. In Sui Dynasty, Wuzhou was established in Chen Dynasty, and Dongyang county was established in Daye county. Wuzhou in Tang Dynasty belongs to Jiangnan Road. Wuzhou in Song Dynasty belongs to Zhedong road. In the 13th year of Yuan Dynasty, Wuzhou road was changed. In the Ming Dynasty, Zhongshu was set up in Wuzhou and was renamed ningyue Prefecture. In the 20th year of Hongwu, ningyue mansion was changed to Jinhua mansion. In Qing Dynasty, it was designated as Jinhua Prefecture, which belonged to the Department of Zhejiang Province.

Qin and Han Dynasties
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, it was the western boundary of Yue.
Qin belongs to Kuaiji Prefecture.

Three Kingdoms and two Jin Dynasties
In the second year of Wu chiwu's reign, Pingchang county was established at the end of Taimo (the Jin Dynasty was changed into Suichang county); in the eighth year, Yongkang county was established at Wushang and Shangpu.

In 1912, the provincial and county government was abolished. Jinhua Road was established in 1914, and its jurisdiction was extended to the former Quzhou and Yanzhou prefectures. The road was abandoned in 1927, and the counties still directly belong to the province.
In June 1932, the eighth District of Zhejiang Provincial Office of county inspectors was set up in Jinhua. In September, the sixth special zone of the office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision of the special zone of Zhejiang Province was re established. During the period of the Republic of China, the serial number of the administrative supervision district, the counties under its jurisdiction, and the special offices changed from time to time.
On May 7, 1949, Jinhua was liberated and the eighth administrative region of Zhejiang Province was established. In October, it was renamed Jinhua District. In November, Jinhua District has jurisdiction over two cities and nine counties. In March 1955, Quzhou district was withdrawn and merged. After that, the counties (cities) under the jurisdiction of Jinhua District continued to be merged and restored, and adjusted with Hangzhou, Lishui and other neighboring cities.
In April 1968, Jinhua District was changed into Jinhua District. In May 1985, Jinhua District was abolished, and the former Jinhua and Quzhou county-level cities were upgraded to prefecture level cities respectively. In the meantime, Lanxi County was abolished and Lanxi City (county level) was established. Jinhua City governs Wucheng District, Lanxi City and Jinhua, Yongkang, Wuyi, Dongyang, Pan'an, Yiwu and Pujiang counties.
In 1988, Yiwu county was abolished and Yiwu City (county level) was established.
