Yangshan Qiyin Temple
Yangshan Qiyin temple is located 23 kilometers south of Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, under the cloud peak of Mingyue Mountain. It was founded by Huiji, the founder of Huiyang sect, in 845. It was called Yangshan temple, Qiyin temple, Taiping Xingguo temple and Xingguo ancient temple in ancient times. It is the first of the five Buddhist sects in China. Yangshan Qiyin Temple rose in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the song and Yuan Dynasties, lasted in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and was almost destroyed by the torch in the Daoguang period of the late Qing Dynasty. In its heyday, there were 28 halls, halls, buildings and pavilions in Yangshan Qiyin temple, with more than 1000 monks, which had an important position and great influence at home and abroad. Huang Tingjian, Fan Chengda, Xin Qiji and Zhu Xi, the famous literati of Song Dynasty, have all paid a visit. The temple covers an area of 400 mu.
In 2006, the restoration of Qiyin temple in Yangshan officially began, and in 2011, the reconstruction of Qiyin temple was completed.
Historical evolution
During the Huichang period of the Tang Dynasty (841-843), Huiji, a famous monk at that time, opened up a Buddhist temple. Pei Xiu, the prime minister at that time, and Wei Zhou, the Jiangxi observer, supported the construction. He practiced Zen in Yangshan and spread it to Korea and Japan. Yangshan became a great Buddhist temple. In the first year of Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty, Xuanzong personally wrote the title of "Qiyin Temple" and granted it to Yangshan Taoist temple. After Huiji's death, the imperial court granted him the posthumous title of "Zhitong Zen master".
During the reign of Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty, Zhao Ji changed the name of Qiyin temple to "Taiping Xingguo Temple".
In the winter of the seventh year of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty (early 1304), the temple was destroyed by fire. Thanks to the hard work of the Buddhist monk Xiling, the new temple rose again eight years later, and "its members are more beautiful than those of the old.". Jiangxi Province reported the temple drawing to the imperial court. Emperor Ren of Yuan Dynasty inscribed a plaque of "Taiping Xingguo temple in Dayang mountain" and gave the name of "huizhao" to the Zen master. He also ordered the minister Cheng Jufu to write "Taiping Xingguo temple reconstruction in Dayang mountain", which was written by the great calligrapher Zhao Mengfu.
In the late Qing Dynasty, Yangshan Temple group with Taiping Xingguo temple as the core also declined. In 1831, Taiping Xingguo temple was destroyed by fire again. It was rebuilt for the last time and changed to "Xingguo ancient temple". The reconstructed temple only covers an area of more than 500 square meters, less than one twentieth of the scale of the past.
During several movements after liberation, temples were demolished, and the last monks were expelled from other places. All the facilities in the temple were burned down. Even Huiji's relic tower was not preserved, and Buddhist activities stopped completely.
After the reform and opening up, the cause of restoring the Yangshan Qiyin temple has gradually matured.
In 2004, under the suggestion of elder Yicheng, the local government and Mr. Huang Xingen of Shanghai invested to repair the Buddhist relic pagoda of Huiji, the founder of the first mountain, and held a grand completion ceremony in autumn. The first step in the restoration of Yangshan ancestral court was successful.
In the spring of 2005, elder Yicheng thought that the time had come and decided to send master Yanghang to preside over the restoration of the Yangshan Qiyin temple. On April 12, Yichun Municipal People's government officially appointed master Yang hang as the abbot of Yangshan Qiyin temple. On May 15, master Yanghang led the monks to live in Yangshan, and the restoration work started immediately.
In the spring of 2006, the land acquisition and demolition of some mountain people were carried out. On May 17, the foundation laying ceremony of Daxiong hall was solemnly held. The meeting announced that the restoration of Qiyin temple in Yangshan began. In the winter of 2006, the cement road into the mountain was built.
On March 30, 2007, the foundation law meeting of Shangliang hall and Tianwang hall was held. In a year, first of all, the planned plane is pushed into shape. The main building level of the central axis is five floors, and the two sides are eight floors. The whole temple complex is arranged in high and low order. At the end of the year, the Tianwang hall was capped, the foundation of Shanmen hall was laid, and the retaining wall 8 meters wide, 43 meters long and 12.5 meters high in front of the main hall was completed step by step.
In 2008, we completed the construction of the bell tower, the Bell Tower Wing room, the Jialan hall, the Jialan hall wing room, the Juxian Pavilion, the Guanyin hall wing room, the Xuhuai building, and the Xuhuai building wing room (collectively referred to as the Dongxiang room), totaling more than 4000 square meters. There are thousands of cubic meters of rubble retaining wall and cement retaining wall. The zushi hall and Hongfa hall are also under construction. At the end of the year, the Mountain Gate hall was capped and the small release pool was completed. Before the Spring Festival, the temple monks were officially moved from the pagoda to the new temple, marking the formal resumption of Yangshan Buddhist activities.
In 2009, the decoration of qingbaishi guardrail in front of daxiongbao hall was completed. The platform in front of the Mountain Gate hall, the main body of the Zen hall, the West Wing room of the Guanyin hall, and the East and West Wing rooms were completed one after another.
In September 2010, the main part of the Abbot's room was completed, and the ten thousand Buddha Grottoes in front of the Zen hall was completed, which can support ten thousand Buddha statues. In addition, the ancestral pagoda tombs in the whole mountain range around Yangshan have been sorted out and repaired.
On September 10, 2011, Qiyin temple was rebuilt and completed in Yangshan, Jiangxi Province, the ancestral home of Fuyang sect. The temple held a comprehensive Dharma meeting including Kaiguang, Abbot's promotion, preaching and completion.

The overall style of the temple is Ming and Qing architectural style. The outdoor is granite slab, and the indoor floor is paved with gold bricks. The layout of the temple is high and low, and through the connection of the veranda, it forms a closed space.
Cultural value
The origin of the word "terrace"
As the population of Yangshan increased greatly in Song Dynasty, some people came here to cultivate mountains and open fields. Fan Chengda, a famous writer of that year, recorded in his record of Luan, that "the mountains and bans are all covered with rice fields, which are named terraces. This is the origin of the word "terrace".
Yangshan
Since the Eastern Han Dynasty, Yangshan has been famous for worshiping mountain gods. Ge Hong, a great pharmacist of the Jin Dynasty, once made alchemy at the top of Jiyun peak in Yangshan. Han Yu, a great writer of the Tang Dynasty, also prayed for rain and blessings for the local people in the temple at the foot of the mountain. Huang Tingjian, Zhang Shangying, Fan Chengda, Xin Qiji, Zhu Xi and other famous scholars in Song Dynasty also visited the temple. Taiping Xingguo temple in Song Dynasty was not only prosperous, but also led to the rise of a large number of "satellite" temples in Yangshan. Some of them are famous at home and abroad. "Yichun is the holy land of Zen" is the inscription of elder Yicheng, who was the president of China Buddhist Association at that time.
Jiyangzong
In the five schools and seven schools of Chinese Buddhism, juanyang sect was the earliest. Zen master Lingyou (771-853) and his disciple Huiji (813-891), the founders of this sect, were founded in the Tang and Yuan Dynasties in Taishan of Tanzhou (now Ningxiang County of Changsha, Hunan Province) and Yangshan of Yuanzhou (now Yichun, Jiangxi Province). It is named after the two mountains of Jue and Yang, so it is called Jue Yang Zong. This is the first leaf of "one flower and five leaves" of Zen, and then Linji, caodong, fayan and Yunmen appeared one after another, forming a situation of "ten temples and nine Zen" in temples all over the world. "Zen" has become a synonym of Buddhism in China. He inherited and carried forward the spirit of Daoyi and Huaihai, and advocated that all things have Buddha's nature. If you have a clear mind, you can become a Buddha. The Zen style of Chen Yangzong is not yet strongly debated. It is important to see the big in the small, and to pass the fragrance in the dark. This kind of Zen style is suitable for those gentle people with deep roots and good character.
As the first of the five and seven schools of Zen, Yangshan Qiyin temple, the ancestral home of Yangyang sect, and the thoughts and relics of its founder, Hui Ji, occupy an important position in the whole Chinese Zen.
Damage protection
In September 2003, Jiangxi provincial government approved Yichun city to restore Yangshan Qiyin temple on the original site. In May 2004, Yichun Municipal government set up a coordination committee headed by the mayor for the restoration of Yangshan Qiyin temple, with Yicheng monk as the consultant. In view of the fact that the restoration of Qiyin temple in Yangshan is a multi-year project which costs tens of millions and takes four or five years, involving a large number of mountains, forests, land and people, Yichun City has decided to take two steps to build Huiji ancestral pagoda first and then the temple. In the middle of August 2004, the construction of Huiji pagoda was started. At the same time, the road from Yichun central city to Yangshan was also reconstructed. With the joint efforts of relevant departments of the municipal government and Qiyin temple, Huiji pagoda was completed, and the road from Yichun central city to Yangshan was also completed.
