Shouning Temple
Shouning temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty. It is said that Zhao Kuangyin, the song Taizu, visited Miao Guangyi, a meritorious Minister of that year. According to the inscriptions in the temple, it was an ancient temple at the time of song Taizu, and it carried Yan and Zhao monks to reward the king's master and show their magic power. Later, it was built in the year of Chenghua of Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the second year of Jiaqing.
Shouning temple, Daoguang years rest into the present scale.
Brief introduction to temples
According to folklore, there was a monk in the temple who called him Tian Shanyou. During the busy farming season, the village was full of requests for his help. On the same day, the kind-hearted people asked for help. No matter how many people asked for help, they all answered, but the next day they were all finished. The news spread like the wind and reached Kuang Yi, the second emperor of Zhao Dynasty. Was there such a God? So they went to worship him Tian Shanyou knew that he was visiting, but he didn't see him, so he went up to the temple and waited for a chance to count. Zhao II rode into the temple and found the gate of the main hall open. He thought he was chanting scriptures in the main hall, so he urged the horse to enter the hall. When he looked inside, there was no one. So he said: "it's just looking at the Buddha in the air." Tian Shanyou said in the air, "thank you for your kindness" until now There are still deep horseshoe marks on the stone. Tian Shanyou went to Mianshan to receive cigarettes after asking for the seal. Since then, every dry year, the villagers have to go to Mianshan to invite the Buddha to rain, and every time they ask for rain, they will feel good.

Historical evolution
From this point of view, both historical records and folklore can confirm the long history of Shouning temple. It's a thousand year old temple.
Architectural style
The largest 500 Luohan hall in China and the 500 Luohan hall in Shouning temple are not only the only 500 Luohan hall in Shanxi Province, but also the largest Luohan hall building in China at present. Talking about the origin of the construction, master Yizhi said that it was completely from his "initiative".
In 2003, on the first Sunday of his study in Wuchang Buddhist College, master Yichi visited the 500 Arhats Hall of Guiyuan Buddhist temple in Wuhan. On the spur of the moment, he drew a sign according to the folk method of counting Arhats, which said: "read the Scriptures, work hard, and persuade you to suffer all the hardships in the world." master Yichi immediately felt that this was the guidance of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the dark.
Back at school, yizhi mage solemnly put his signature close to the book, and secretly vowed that he would be more courageous in the future.
Cultural heritage
From then on, master Yizhi had a special feeling for the arhat culture. He would come to the arhat hall every once in a while to see a arhat with different postures and expressions.
During the first summer vacation of Wuchang Buddhist College, a master who came back to Shouning temple one day suddenly had an idea to know if there is a Luohan hall in Shanxi Province. After extensive access to information, found that there are thousands of Buddhist temples in Shanxi Province, there is no one Luohan hall. Master Yizhi had a wish to build a 500 arhat hall in Shouning temple after he graduated and returned to Shanxi. This wish, like a seed, gradually takes root, germinates and grows in Yizhi mage's heart Finally, it bears rich fruits.
In January 2005, master Yichi graduated from Wuchang Buddhist College and returned to Shouning temple. He immediately started to prepare for the construction of Luohan hall. After negotiation with Dachang village, where the temple is located, he won the open space on one side of the temple. On March 18, the foundation of 500 Luohan hall was laid and the ceremony of sprinkling and cleaning was held.
Reconstruction period
The construction of Luohan hall was not smooth sailing. It not only invested huge human, material and financial resources, but also experienced many hardships and twists. Originally, it was planned that the 500 Luohan hall would be completed before August 8, 2008 to present a gift to the Beijing Olympic Games. However, it was unexpected that the roof would leak rain in a large area after the completion, and the construction team had already disappeared. Yizhi mage had to invest a lot of money to renovate the roof. This delayed for another two years.
Talking about these experiences, master Yizhi didn't look sad. Instead, he exuded a kind of deep faith and calmness. "That afternoon, after people left, I stood alone in front of this open space, and suddenly a golden 500 arhat hall appeared in front of me. So I firmly believe that a magnificent arhat Hall will be completed here."
Master Yizhi has a very unique understanding of arhat culture. He thinks arhat is easier to get close to and learn from. Luohan has three characteristics: one is that the six roots are pure and the troubles are removed; the other is that he has broken away from life and death and entered Nirvana; the third is that he is supported by man and nature and moralized according to fate. Today's monks can aspire to be Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as their highest goal, but they should start from learning from arhat, and then go to a higher level after arhat has done a good job. The 500 arhat hall was built to popularize arhat culture.

In 2008, it was rated as a "five-star" religious place of Shanxi Provincial Bureau of religion, and the idea of building Shouning temple into a "martial medicine Zen Temple" has a long history.
