Pang Judong
Pangju cave is located on the East Bank of Hanjiang River, 19 kilometers northeast of Yicheng city, Hubei Province. It is backed by Bawang mountain and miaomen mountain. It belongs to pangju village, Wangji Town, and is 1 km away from the Han River in the West. Pang Yun, a hermit in the Tang Dynasty, took his wife and daughter to practice here, and the whole family rose to enlightenment.
Historical story
Pangju cave is located in the northeast of Yicheng, belonging to pangju village of Wangji Town, only 3 km away from the street of Wangji town. The cave is on a small hillside, with its back resting on Bawang and lumen mountains. It is only one kilometer away from the Han River in the West.
In the Ming Dynasty, Liang Jing, a native of Yicheng, built a temple on the south side of the cave, named "pangju Temple", which was expanded in the Qing Dynasty. It was destroyed in the late 1950s. The cave is not big, about 20 square meters. It is divided into two branches from the front hall. When the temple is not demolished, the incense is very strong. People who come to burn incense and worship Buddha either go on foot or drive carriages, which stretches for more than ten miles, bustling and bustling.
At present, there are inscriptions compiled by the Imperial Academy during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty in Dongkou, and there is a couplet written by Wang Wanfang, who is known as the "talented man of Xiangyang": "the sun and the moon come and go leisurely in the mountains, and the haze at Dongkou has existed since ancient times." Banner "hermit house". Inside the cave, there are statues of Pang Yun and his wife. It is said that Pang Ju cave was originally very deep, and a branch on the north side could lead to lumen temple, but it was later filled up.
Introduction to geography
Pang Ju cave is wide in front and narrow in back, warm in winter and cool in summer. Pangju cave is 2 meters high and 1.68 meters wide with an area of 70 square meters. There is a horizontal plaque at the top of the cave, which reads "hermit residence". On the top of the plaque is a stone relief pattern of flowers and birds; on the left and right walls are inscribed a couplet in Li style: "the sun and the moon come and go freely in the mountains, and the haze at the entrance of the cave has been from ancient times to the present", which is a book written by Wang Wanfang, the official teacher of the eight banners of the Qing Dynasty.
There is a stone tablet on the north wall of the cave entrance, 1.2 meters high and 0.5 meters wide. The inscription records that during the Qing and Qian dynasties, the government repaired pangju temple. There are 10 statues of Pang Mu and other statues in the cave. There are three stone caves in the cave. One of them is northeast oriented and extends downward. It is said that it is connected with lumen temple in Xiangyang, and the other is East-West oriented, which is said to be connected with Changshan.
In front of the cave, there are a row of East-West wing rooms on the north and south sides, in which there are several Buddha statues. In front of the entrance of the cave, there are three two-story wooden floor buildings facing east and West. This building is called "Wenchang building". There are dozens of Buddha statues on the upper and lower floors. There are stone tablets on the four walls of the building, and there are inscriptions written by Wang Wanfang, a bachelor in Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. On the north and south sides of the cave, there are ancestral hall cave, cow cave, frog cave, etc., all of which are hidden in the green forest.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was listed as a key cultural relics protection unit at the municipal level.
