Tianjin lingdang Pavilion
synonym
Lingdangge (Tianjin lingdangge) generally refers to Tianjin lingdangge
Located in Hongqiao District of Tianjin city, lingdang pavilion was originally named Jigu temple. It was built in the Tang Dynasty and contains the complete volume of Dazangjing. In the seventh year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1579 A.D.), a sutra pavilion was built. There were wind bells in the corner of the pavilion. The bells could be heard for miles. The villagers called it lingdang Pavilion. In the 18th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, the lingdang pavilion was on fire, and the Sutra Pavilion and the stored Tripitaka were reduced to ashes. In 1901, the old site of lingdangge was changed into a new middle school, lingdangge middle school. Although lingdangge has been burned for more than 100 years, the name has been handed down for a long time, and a series of place names such as lingdangge street and lingdangge middle school have been derived from it.
Tianjin folk saying: Tianjin Wei three treasures, Drum Tower, battery, Bell Pavilion.
brief introduction
The so-called "three treasures of Tianjin: Drum Tower, battery and lingdangge (" Ge "does not read g é, but g ǎ o)".
In the seventh year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1579), the Sutra pavilion was built with double eaves. Wind chimes are installed in the corner of the pavilion, which can be heard for several miles. The villagers call it lingdang Pavilion.
In the 38th year of Kangxi reign, the abbot monk Hanguang was rebuilt once again. Zhu YIZUN, a literary master of the Qing Dynasty, wrote an article to record his story and described his temporary feelings: "the setting sun is in his clothes, the wind chimes are ringing; the flying birds are up and down, and the eyes are broad." In the 18th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, the house and the stored Sutra were all reduced to ashes.
In 1901, Yan fansun, Gao Lingwen, Wang Shilan and others proposed to change the old site of Jigu academy into a new middle school, and established the earliest official middle school in Tianjin, named Tianjin ordinary middle school. Its evolution is now Tianjin No.3 middle school, and its current site is lingdangge middle school. On its school flag and school emblem, lingdang is its main symbol.
evolution
Lingdangge has been burned for more than 100 years, but the name has been handed down for a long time, because it derived a series of place names such as lingdangge street, lingdangge North Hutong, lingdangge big Hutong, lingdangge West Hutong, lingdangge middle school, lingdangge primary school, lingdangge Street office, etc.
In addition, in the south of Hongqiao District, between ruyi'an street and xiaoxiguan street, there was a "g ǎ o" outer street. This "Ge" refers to the Cross Street Pavilion dedicated to Guanyin. This street was formed in the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty. It was demolished in 1995 and built into mustard garden road.
In Gu He Za Yong, Jiang Shi said: "there is an ancient temple in the west of Jindian City, and the high Pavilion of Tibetan scriptures is called bell." It's a good sentence.
Fan bin, a sage of the Qing Dynasty, wrote in his book Jinmen Xiaoling: "Jinmen is good. Why should we admire Chengao? The bell is searching for cangbeili. The drum tower shouts Pu Shou from ten li. Chi Wu meets Tiangao.".
The eighth volume of Qianlong's "Tianjin county annals" is attached with "Temple of altar": "Jigu temple, in the northwest corner outside the northwest gate, was built in the seventh year of Wanli and rebuilt in the 38th year of Kangxi The Sutra Pavilion here is the lingdang Pavilion.
According to Tongzhi's Xuzhi, "Haihui temple is located in the west of Jigu temple in the west of the city, where the monk Haihui of Tianzhu state built an nunnery from Yuan Dynasty to Zheng Dynasty. It was rebuilt during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. " Obviously, there are differences between the two records.
However, Gao Lingwen, a famous local chronicler in Tianjin, used his explanation to solve the contradiction between the two: the Jigu temple built in Wanli period was beside Haihui temple; the Haihui temple was built in Yuan Dynasty, and it was merged into Jigu temple at the end of Ming Dynasty.
"New records of Tianjin county" Volume 25 attached with "Temple" said: "Haihui temple is in the northwest of the city, the Yuan Dynasty to the Zhengjian period, Tianzhu monk Haihui nunnery here, hence the name.
Next to it is Jigu temple, which was built in the seventh year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty. Later, Haihui temple was incorporated into Jigu temple
Name and origin
The Sutra pavilion was originally the building of Haihui temple, but later it was merged into Jigu temple and became its subsidiary building. "The pavilion has two storeys, five wide Ying, four eaves, and wings like a bird." The "Sutra Pavilion" has two floors, but its foundation is more than one Zhang high. Roof cornices prominent, painted beams and carved buildings, solemn and gorgeous.
In order to publicize the role of Buddhism in awakening the world and prevent the damage and contamination of birds, 48 wind chimes, more than one foot long, are hung at the eaves of the roof. When the breeze blows, the bells are as clear and pleasant as waves from near to far.
The sound can be heard for two or three miles, which adds splendor to the residents in this area and is deeply admired. As time goes by, lingdang Pavilion made a big noise, which was heard all over the world.
collection
There are 16 cabinets of Buddhist scriptures in the pavilion. Among them, the Dazangjing includes almost all the Chinese Buddhist classics, as well as the Beiye Sutra. These classic versions are very precious. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi, the Tianjin Taoist Department donated money to rebuild the ancient temple. Famous craftsmen from the south of the Yangtze River were invited to renovate the temple in imitation of the Yellow Crane Tower. At the same time, several bungalows were expanded to meet the needs of textual research.
Most of the books and notes in the library are donated by celebrities at that time, most of which are rare treasures. There are hundreds of unique manuscripts in China, especially the manuscripts of yuan and Ming Dynasties and the 40 volumes of the Six Dynasties.
It is said that the sixth day of the sixth lunar month is the "Sun Sutra Festival". On that day, all the books in the pavilion will be exposed to the sun to prevent moths. At the same time, it will be a good opportunity for readers to read. At that time, some literati from Tianjin came in droves to have a glimpse of it.
In 1887, the magistrate of Tianjin set up Jigu Academy in Jigu temple. In the 20th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, a fire broke out in a nearby timber yard, which affected the lingdang Pavilion and destroyed the buildings and library.
