Guangzhou University Town

Guangzhou University Town, located in Xiaoguwei street, Panyu District, Guangzhou, is located on both sides of the Pearl River, covering an area of 34.4 square kilometers. Phase I is located in Xiaoguwei Island, covering an area of 18 square kilometers. There are Huangpu Military Academy, Xinhai revolution memorial hall, Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall and other tourist attractions on the east side of the first phase of the University City. The second Mausoleum Museum of the Southern Han Dynasty will also open in 2018.

The overall planning and construction of Guangzhou University Town was officially launched in January 2003, and the first phase of the project was officially completed 19 months later. On September 1, 2004, the first phase entered ten universities, including Sun Yat sen University, South China University of technology, South China Normal University, Guangzhou University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and foreign trade, Guangzhou University of traditional Chinese medicine, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, Guangdong University of technology, Guangzhou Academy of fine arts and Xinghai Conservatory of music.

Jinan University and Guangzhou Medical University entered the second phase of Guangzhou University Town.

Guangzhou University Town is a center for senior talents training, scientific research and exchange in South China, a national first-class university park with integrated development of learning, research and production, and an "information port" and "intelligence center" in southern China.

On January 21, 2003, just two months after taking office, Zhang Dejiang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Guangdong provincial Party committee, visited Xiaoguwei island in Panyu to inspect the preparatory work for the construction of Guangzhou University City, and put forward the requirements of "building a national first-class University City" and "enrolling students in September 2004", which pointed out the direction for the construction of the University City and started the construction of Guangzhou University City in an all-round way.

On January 22, 2003, the Guangzhou municipal Party committee and government held a meeting to study and implement the spirit of Zhang Dejiang's instructions. In combination with the requirements of "unified planning, unified construction and unified management" of the provincial Party committee and government, the Guangzhou University City construction headquarters was established, which is specifically responsible for organizing and implementing the construction of Guangzhou University City. Under the direct organization and command of the headquarters office, the first phase of the university town project includes 2.25 million square meters of housing construction, all urban municipal, public and campus greening, public supporting facilities and supporting water, electricity, gas and other public infrastructure, which have been completed and put into use one after another.

At the end of August 2004, more than 8000 teachers and students entered the University as scheduled.

At the beginning of September 2004, more than 31000 new students and more than 4000 teachers also entered. Guangzhou University Town has successfully realized enrollment.

Entering colleges and Universities

Phase I

The ten universities in Xiaoguwei island of the first phase of university town are:

University City Campus of Sun Yat sen University: nine colleges enter the University City: in addition to the newly established engineering college and the school of communication and design, there are seven colleges in the east campus, including the school of information science and technology, the school of environmental science and engineering, the school of mathematics and Computing science, the school of management, the school of political and public affairs management, the school of law and the school of public health The seven colleges have different majors and student categories.

University City Campus of South China University of Technology: the land area is 1658 mu (1221 mu for teaching area and 437 mu for living area). The total building area of the new campus is 660000 square meters. The old campus of South China University of technology is designated as the north campus, and the new campus is designated as the south campus. The old campus should be stronger, focusing on traditional disciplines; the new campus should make features, focusing on the development of new disciplines, such as bioengineering, economics, news media and computer software.

The campus of South China Normal University covers an area of 1462 mu, with a total construction area of 500000 square meters, including 55545 square meters of teaching building and 37590 square meters of library, with a total investment of more than 1.8 billion yuan.

Guangzhou University of traditional Chinese medicine Campus: all the freshmen of Grade 2004 will live in Guangzhou University Town, and some senior students of some majors will also live in Guangzhou University Town, with a total number of about 2700. The campus of university city will become the center of the University, which is mainly used for undergraduate education. The old campus will continue to be used as the graduate department.

Guangzhou University City Campus: land area: 1975.6 mu (1389.7 mu for teaching area and 585.9 mu for living area). The total building area of the new campus is 596000 square meters, including 360000 square meters for teaching area. Landmark buildings: Graphic Information Center, performing arts center, multi-functional gymnasium, etc. The new campus of Guangzhou University is located in the southwest of Xiaoguwei Island, Panyu District. It is adjacent to the Pearl River Channel in the South and northwest, bounded by the central express in the southeast and opposite to Guangdong science and technology center in the West. The cross river tunnel, Metro Line 7 and Central Express pass through the south, West and northeast of the school respectively, with convenient transportation.

The University Town Campus of Guangdong University of foreign studies is the south campus, and the North Campus of Baiyunshan is the main campus to develop undergraduate education. The first phase of the construction of 23 single buildings in the south campus has been completed. The "Trinity" teaching management system will be implemented with the course selection system as the center and the tutorial system and the major minor system as the auxiliary. The management center, the arrangement of teachers and the construction of campus culture are inclined to the south campus, and nine colleges will enter.

Guangdong University of technology is the largest of the ten universities in the university town. It proposes that by 2007, there will be 24500 undergraduates and 3500 postgraduates on the campus of the university town. It plans to mainly recruit affordable students. The other campuses will recruit about 18000 students under the new mechanism of public administration, which will be charged according to the full cost to repay the loan. In addition, it will recruit software according to the requirements of the Ministry of education 2000-3000 blue collar workers. By then, the number of students will reach about 49000, making it the largest university in Guangdong Province.

The campus of university town of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University will become the main campus of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University. In the new semester, there are 32 majors and professional directions. In addition to pharmacy, pharmaceutical preparation and preventive medicine, there are 17 new majors, including clinical medicine, chemical engineering and technology, computer science and technology, and international economy and trade. Chigang campus will focus on clinical medicine while Baogang campus will focus on adult education.

The campus of Xinghai Conservatory of music has 27 classrooms, 187 piano rooms, 210 pianos, 269 other musical instruments and a 600 seat concert hall. In 1986, the basic music department was established with more than 20 electronic organs. The music library has a collection of 51989 books, 52926 music scores, 17304 records, 2579 cassettes of audio tapes and 500 kinds of Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals.

The University City Campus of Guangzhou Academy of fine arts covers an area of 414 mu, which is about 2.8 times of the old campus (150 mu); the building area is 240000 square meters (80000 square meters), which is three times of the old campus.

Phase II

The South Campus of Jinan University mainly develops the undergraduate education of foreign language and literature, law, political science, physical education, pharmacy, chemistry, ecology, material science, biomedical engineering, food science, environmental science, mathematics, computer science, electronic science, emerging interdisciplinary, management science and economics.

Panyu campus of Guangzhou Medical University is located in Xiufa village, Xinzao Town, separated from Guangzhou University City. The new campus was officially put into use in September 2014.

Phase I of Guangzhou University Town is located in the southeast of Guangzhou. It is located on Xiaoguwei Island, Panyu District. It is adjacent to Luoxi island in the west, Biological Island in the north and Changzhou Island in the East. Guangzhou University Town phase II is located in the South Bank of Xiaoguwei Island, covering an area of 25.3 square kilometers. It will be built into a city level strategic development platform - "Guangzhou International Innovation City", which integrates science and technology innovation center, international science and education cooperation base, international science and technology incubation base, international first-class talent training special zone, Guangzhou new economic growth pole and Guangzhou new science and education city.

Guangdong Science Center

Guangdong Science Center is located in the west end of Xiaoguwei Island, covering an area of 450000 square meters, with a building area of 137500 square meters and a total investment of 1.9 billion yuan. It is the largest science museum in China, the representative project of "green building" in China and the landmark building of Guangzhou.

There are 8 permanent theme exhibition areas in the museum, including children's world, experiment and discovery, digital world, traffic world, green home, flying dream, human and health, perception and thinking; 4 science and technology cinemas, including 3D giant screen, 4D, ball screen and virtual navigation; digital home experience hall, open laboratory and several temporary theme exhibition areas. Among them, 3D giant screen cinema is the largest IMAX cinema in Asia.

Guangdong Science Center has won many honorary titles, such as "Guangdong science popularization education base", "Guangdong Youth Science and technology education base", "National Tourism and leisure demonstration unit", the first "science and technology tourism demonstration site" in Guangdong Province, and national 4A scenic spot.
