History
Detailed history
According to the Ming Dynasty Chongzhen years, "Li Cheng" contains: "three yuan palace, one in the bar stone bridge, one in Chaijia lane.". It can be seen that Puli street in the Ming Dynasty was still in the suburb of Jinan. Because it was close to the urban area, it was a Chai city. With the development of Chai City, people gradually built houses here and formed streets and alleys, named "Chaijia alley". During the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty (1851-1861), a Polder wall was built to block the passage between chaijiaxiang and Xianqiao. In 1904, Jinan was opened as a port. In order to facilitate the traffic between Shangbu district and the old urban area, in 1906, an additional Puli gate was opened between yongsuimen (ganshiqiao polder gate) and yongzhenmen (yingxianqiao polder gate) of the former Xixu wall, and chaijiaxiang was widened and renamed Puli street. At the beginning, the street was 400 meters long and 7 meters wide.
After the opening of the street, the whole Puli street was full of merchants and shops. The drugstores include houdetang, zanyutang Xiji, Hongji drugstore and Datong pharmacy; the grocery stores include Dasheng drugstore, Fusheng yongza drugstore, Sanyuan Candle Store, zhixianglou department store, Fuyi hesanbu store and liaolongchang porcelain store; the silk line stores include Hongxiang yongbu store, qianxiangyi Satin store and Yixing publishment store There are "Dehua Xinji", "Renchang", "Chengxing", "Jichang Tongji", "fushunxi", "Yongtai", "qianhengji", "Puhua", "tianchengdong", "Yuankang" and so on. Qianhang has Yuankang qianhang. In addition to business enterprises, many government agencies, organizations and public institutions are also located on Puli street. For example, in 1928, the police branch of Xiguan commercial office was established.
In the 1930s and 1940s, there were a lot of cultural and entertainment activities on the streets. Every festival day, people were very busy walking on stilts, twisting Yangko, storytelling, singing and juggling.
Most of the shops are two-story buildings along the street, with arcades, arched doors and windows. Most of them are the architectural style of integration of Chinese and western.
In 2002, the municipal government plans to transform the triangle area about 60 mu south of Puli Street into a multi-functional Ecological Square, tentatively named "Puli square".
The end of the old street
Today's Puli street is only half an old street. In the north of the street, there are old style gatehouses at the East and West ends, and the rest have been replaced by modern buildings. Most of the "roles" on Puli street have also ended. The only ones that are still in business are the straw bun shop and the Puhua shoe shop. There is also a Jingwen cloth shop that has not been in business for a long time. The former cloth shop is Lao Maosheng, the old name of the candy shop. Lao Maosheng became a leader in the candy industry in the 1930s. He led the way for more than half a century, and then closed down in the 1990s due to poor management. History and culture
Puli street was first called Chai Jia lane, because there are more firewood sellers in this street. The earliest record of chaijiaxiang is in the sixth year of Chongzhen (1633 A.D.). According to Li Cheng: "Sanyuan palace, one is in Ganshi bridge, the other is in Chaijia lane." According to records, Chaijia Lane starts from the south entrance of Lanshi street in the East, ends at huixianqiao in the west, has Jing'an Lane in the north, Haojia lane and xicuanmen Lane in the south, with a total length of 417 meters.
In the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty, the passage between Chaijia lane and Huixian bridge at the west end of the street was blocked because of the construction of Weizi wall. In 1904, Jinan opened its own commercial port. In order to facilitate the traffic between the urban area and the commercial port, in 1908, Pulimen was added between yongzhenmen and yongsuimen, that is, Huixian bridge, which means "universal benefit". Pulimen is connected with chaijiaxiang in weiziqiang. With the name of this back street, chaijiaxiang is renamed Pulimen street, and huixianqiao is renamed puliqiao. In 1924, it was recorded in the annals of Licheng county that chaijiaxiang is now called Puli street
Puli street is connected with the East-West main road of the commercial port, Jinger road in the west, and the west gate in the East through Yishi street. Puli street has become a "golden channel" between the old city and the commercial port. As a result, the business here is prosperous and the shops are crowded, which once became the "Golden Street" for business gathering, and many time-honored brands have come here to set up semicolons. The more famous ones, such as Puhua shoes store, zanyutang, Taikang Food Store, zhixianglou department store, laomaosheng candy shop, Yuxing pigment company, dashendong grocery store, and Caobao baozi, are all over the streets.
In the past, Puli street was not long, but there were many time-honored brands. It's not too much to say one time-honored brand at a time.
When it comes to the time-honored brands on Puli street, many old Jinan people may first think of zanyutang drugstore. After all, zanyutang drugstore is the oldest drugstore on this street.
Zanyutang was opened in 1876. It was first located in the north of Xishou Road, Yuemiao back street. Later, it opened a semicolon in Puli street. It mainly wholesales and retails Chinese herbal medicine and proprietary Chinese medicine. The unique skill of zanyutang was their secret "Baodan pill powder", which had unique efficacy and was known to all in Jinan at that time. In addition to zanyutang, there are also famous Datong West pharmacy and houdetang pharmacy on the street. The latter is the semicolon of Tianjin houdetang. The unique skill of the shop is the exclusive prescription "baicaodan", which specializes in gynecological diseases. It was also very popular at that time.
West of zanyutang, 58 Puli street is the once famous dashendong grocery store. Founded in 1920s, dashendong is a department store specializing in paper, sugar and seafood. At that time, the sea cucumber, abalone and other valuable seafood sold here were famous for their low price. In the 1950s, dashendong was transformed into a Middle East Hotel, and later into a courtyard.
When you mention the Puhua shoe store on Puli street, many old Jinan people will remember the leather soled shoes of the tuxedo. Puhua shoe store was originally on the south side of Puli street. Later, it was moved to the north of Puli street. Now, it is lucky to keep it.
The Hongxiang Yongxian silk cloth shop opened by the famous laoma family in Jinan is also located on Puli street. The old Ma family refers to Ma Xitian in Mingshui, Zhangqiu. Hongxiang Yongsi cloth shop was opened in 1896. At that time, Ma Xitian was able to open with the help of Meng Luochuan. Hongxiang Yongsi cloth shop is one of the five major silk cloth manufacturers in Jinan.
Zhixianglou department store can be said to be one of the most famous time-honored brands in Jinan Department store industry; Taikang Food Store is the first food company in Jinan to produce cans and biscuits, and its fame can be imagined.
There are also qianxiangyi silk shop and qianhengji shoes shop that have long disappeared
Along the Street eastbound, near the east end of the street is the famous straw bun shop. The history of steamed buns with straw bags is a household name. The original name of the founder of Caobao Baozipu was Zhang Wenhan, who was born in Luokou, Jinan. As a child, Zhang Wenhan entered jizhenyuan restaurant in Luokou, where he was taught by famous chef Ang Lee. Zhang Wenhan is a simple and honest man. He burns fire, chooses vegetables and does chores all day. His brothers call him a "straw bag", and Zhang Wenhan doesn't mind.
In 1937, Zhang Wenhan rented a small shop on Taiping Temple Street in ximenli to open a steamed bun shop. Baozi shop is called "straw baozi". Later, in order to expand its business, it moved to the west side of the north gate of the Grand View Garden, where it was heated for a while. Later, because the Grand View Garden changed its owner, it moved to the east entrance of Puli street. Steamed stuffed buns are famous for their thin skin, rich stuffing, delicious taste and soup filling.
In addition to the numerous business houses, there was a person in Puli Street who was worthy of Jinan people's memory. He was Li Panlong, a poet of Ming Dynasty.
Li Panlong successively served as a doctor, deputy envoy of Shaanxi tixue, etc., and was an official in Henan. He has formed associations with Xie Zhen, Wang Shizhen, zongchen, Xu Zhongxing, Liang Youyu and Wu Guolun to discuss poetry. He is one of the leaders of the "last seven sons" of literature in Ming Dynasty and is respected as a "great master of Zonggong". His cangming collection has been popular all over the world for hundreds of years. It is said that after Li Panlong's death, Li's family was in a state of decline. His concubines Cai Ji, Lu's and daughter-in-law Feng's lived in Chai Jiaxiang. They made a living selling cakes and had a hard life. Wang Xiangchun, a poet in the late Ming Dynasty, once wrote: "a generation of essays are deeply buried in waste grass, and Cai Ji's allusions are exhausted
