Recent situation of temples
Entering the temple, a brick and wood structure building similar to the folk house in the style of the Republic of China first came into view. When you came near the door, you read "the original site of the reception Temple". It turned out to be a registered Buddhist place, with patio, wing room and main hall. It can be seen that it is the only remaining building on the original site of the reception temple, and it has also been repaired in recent years. The south side of the temple is covered with debris. The main building of the temple used to be here, while the north and east sides are new temples built in recent years. According to local villagers, the reception temple, which originally covered an area of more than 20 mu, was converted into a grain depot in the 1950s. It was only 20 years ago that the temple was gradually restored.
The building of the Republic of China used to be the place where Master Yuan Ying lived. There is a stele on the south wall of the house. In the past, it turned out that it was a monument of cultural relics protection units set up by the cultural administration department of Yinzhou District a few years ago, with the words "the former site of master Yuanying's Liaoshi" engraved on it. Villagers said that after the temple became a grain depot, the first floor of the house was used to store grain, and the second floor became a dormitory for the staff of the grain station. In the nineties of last century, under the advice of the abbot of Tiantong temple, the house finally returned to the temple property.
Introduction to mage
Master Yuan Ying
Master Yuan Ying (1878-1953) was a Buddhist leader in modern China. Wu, a native of Gutian County, Fujian Province, was named Hongwu after he became a monk. His name was Yuanying, taoguang and the master of Yihou hall. In September 1909, he served as the abbot of Yinxi reception temple and revived Fancha. In order to cultivate talents for spreading the Dharma, he built a lecture hall in the temple, which was named "Yihou hall". He took the meaning of lion's Yihou and beast's sneaking trace, so he called himself "master of Yihou hall". In 1917, master Yuan Ying was elected president of Ningbo Buddhist Association. During the period of the Republic of China, the Buddhist Association of China was founded, and Yuan Ying was promoted to be the president of the association, and won several successive titles. With his efforts, all the temples of the reception temple have been renovated, and the Buddhist status of the reception temple has also been improved unprecedentedly. Therefore, Yuan Ying is the founder of Zhongxing. After he left the temple in 1929, he preached Buddhism all over the country. During the Anti Japanese War, he organized monk rescue teams to go to the front line to rescue the wounded. He turned his Yuanming lecture hall in Shanghai into a refugee shelter, and set up Buddhist hospitals and burial teams to take care of the wounded. He also went to Nanyang to raise money, took the opportunity of preaching scriptures to publicize Anti Japanese and save the country, and advocated the "one yuan movement" to save the country, which was strongly supported by the majority of overseas Chinese and local residents. After returning to China, he was arrested by the Japanese gendarmerie for "Anti Japanese crime" and put into prison. He suffered a lot. He was always calm and unyielding, showing his national integrity as a Chinese. Because he pursued progress and loved peace all his life, he was respected and missed by the people. Now, on the second floor of the building built in the Republic of China, there is a special "Memorial Hall of master Yuan Ying", in which there are sitting portraits, pictures, authentic calligraphy and brief deeds of master Yuan Ying.
Zen master Ciyun
In addition to master Yuan Ying, there are many eminent monks in modern times who are predestined to receive the temple. Among them, there are Ciyun, Baisheng and Yiming, who are the abbots of the temple, and Mingmin and Guangxiu, who became monks in the temple first and then the abbot of Tiantong temple. Master Taixu, the Buddhist leader, also has frequent contacts with the reception temple. It is worth mentioning that master Yuan Ying's master, Zen master Ciyun, devoted himself to protecting and prospering the temple. In 1861, when the Taiping army invaded Ningbo, the city was in chaos, the markets were in depression, and people were in danger. Temples were no exception. Most of the monks who received the lecture were hiding in the temple. Master CI Yun stayed in the temple alone. With the belief that "it's better to sacrifice the Buddha to survive than to swear to the death to maintain the incense", the leader of Taiping army had to admire him. So he gave a yellow flag to CI Yun and told him to hang it on the tree in front of the temple gate, so that the reception lecture temple could be preserved. All other temples in the area were burned and robbed.
Historical status
In history, the position of the reception temple is very special.
Yuan Ying said in the preface to the contract book of the reception temple that the reception and lecture Temple "has a large number of eminent monks, a rich industry, a large number of monks, and a large scale. It is called a tripod with Tiantong Yuwang..." It used to be the lower courtyard of Tiantong temple. Because Tiantong temple is one of the five famous temples of Zen, it is known as the "southeast Buddhist kingdom". It is a place where monks and pilgrims from all over the world pilgrimage to Buddha. The reception lecture temple is located on the Bank of the Xitang river. In the past, ships from Hangzhou had to pass through the Yaojiang River, pass through the daxiba, and then go all the way east along the Xitang river. As a place for monks and residents to receive people from all directions to Tiantong temple, it is equivalent to a "transit wharf". It is named after "reception".
