Xu's Museum of art, Hong Kong
Located on the 4th floor of Building 5, Queen's Road Central, the Xu's Art Museum of Hong Kong has a collection of over 3000 pieces of Chinese art.
More than 3000 pieces of Chinese art, including ceramics, steel, woodcut, ivory and furniture, are collected in the Xu's Museum of art in Hong Kong.
Mr. Xu zhantang, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is not only a leader in business, but also an outstanding connoisseur of cultural relics collection who is keen on traditional culture.
Xu zhantang, whose ancestral home is Yixing, Jiangsu Province, was born in Ji'an, Jiangxi Province in 1941. At the age of 9, he moved to Hong Kong with his parents. At the age of 13, his father died of lung disease. From then on, he lived with his mother and sister-in-law. The frustrations of his youth have cultivated his perseverance of constant struggle. The bank Messenger, the restaurant handyman and so on do everything, so far he still has two oil paintings on the wall of the office: in the messy environment, two bright children are climbing the wooden ladder. Mr. Xu said that he liked the painting very much, which is the best portrayal of his bare handed development. When he was 16 years old, he had already entered the business world. At first, he was engaged in catering, painting, signboard and decoration industries. He did it wholeheartedly, kept planning, accumulated assets and business experience, and gradually expanded to the real estate industry. In the early 1970s, Hong Kong's economy was depressed, and the stock market and real estate market fell again and again. Xu zhantang had a brilliant insight, boldly bought and benefited a lot. In the early 1980s, because the Sino British negotiations on the Hong Kong issue had a direct impact on the real estate industry in Hong Kong, people's minds were floating for a while and the market was bearish. He decided to buy in large quantities, and it was really cool. The two successes laid the foundation for today's career. Since then, he has successively acquired Hong Kong's old Chinese paint factory, Hong Kong Citybus group and London Citybus company, expanded the family owned Beihai group, initiated and established the new China Hong Kong Group across Hong Kong, Singapore and the mainland, and invested in the mainland's energy, infrastructure, automobile and other fields. His business is booming.
After his success in business, Mr. Xu has never forgotten to repay the society. He is famous for his philanthropy. He once served as the chairman of the third East China Hospital, a famous charity in Hong Kong. In addition, he is also enthusiastic about sports. He has been the chairman of many sports associations, such as the Hong Kong Badminton Association, and often leads teams to participate in various competitions. In fact, it was a chance that I became interested in collecting. At first, I went to Guangzhou to participate in the Canton Fair. At that time, the mainland just began to reform and open up. Some small porcelains were sold in Wende road and other places. For example, in the early days of the people's Republic of China, the wash basins in Jiangsu and Zhejiang were painted with figures, flowers and birds, and each was worth dozens of yuan I bought a few and gave them to foreign friends in business. They like them very much. " Since then, Xu's collection of antiques, business time, but also to visit museums, bookstores and other cultural places around the world as a pleasure, and batch purchase of cultural relics, art and other books, in order to enrich their knowledge, improve the ability to identify antiques, have a considerable understanding of the history and culture of the people. Every time I meet my favorite cultural relics, I always have a strong desire to buy them. I am determined to get them. I do not hesitate to spend a lot of money to buy many precious cultural relics from international auction companies such as Sotheby's and Christie's, and entrust senior experts to search for high-quality products in Britain, the United States, Japan and other countries. After more than ten years of accumulation, it has now collected more than 4000 pieces, including ceramics, bronzes, jades, furniture, dental horn ware, etc. according to experts' estimation, the total value is about 100 million US dollars, ranking among the top five collectors in the world, and is the only Chinese among them.
Mr. Xu zhantang is addicted to Chinese cultural relics, but unlike traditional collectors, he does not amuse himself or limit himself to a few people. Instead, he publishes them to the public, so that more people can visit and appreciate the style of national art. After careful planning and arrangement, in 1991, the first private Chinese Museum, Hongkong Xu's Art Museum, was established in addition to mainland China and Taiwan. Its collection included more than 2000 treasures, mainly including Shang, Zhou bronzes and Chinese mainland ceramics, magnificent display and design, and two special collections of Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is recognized as one of the top five private museums in the world.
There are more than 3000 pieces of ceramics in Xu's collection. From the Neolithic period to the late Qing Dynasty, there are not only the continuity of times, but also the diversity of types. Almost every piece can represent the highest level of that era. It can be called a real history of Chinese ceramics. Among them, there are Majiayao culture horse factory type and Banshan type painted pottery pots, each with smooth lines and strong color contrast. There are Longshan culture eggshell black pottery buildings with empty high handle cups, showing strength and straightness. In the Western Han Dynasty, the painted gray pottery dragon is as high as 43cm, which is rare in the world. In the Tang Dynasty, the three color ware is even more exquisite. In the Song Dynasty, there are Geyao gray blue glaze petal mouth wash, and Yuan blue and white courtyard lion pattern plate. As for the porcelains of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it can be said that they are the best of the best, such as the blue and white shouniao Liji pattern platter in Yongle of Ming Dynasty, the pink flower bowl in Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, the blue and white Yunlong vase in Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, and so on. Mr. Xu zhantang is deeply touched by the fact that these objects have not come easily. They not only cost millions or tens of millions, but also need patience and opportunity.
In 1988, Mr. Xu zhantang went to the UK to expand his business. He took time to visit the famous Victoria Albert Museum in the UK. He saw a batch of precious Chinese cultural relics piled up in the warehouse due to lack of funds. He was very moved, With a donation of 1.25 million pounds, the Victoria Albert Museum built a Chinese Art Museum named after Mr. Xu zhantang on June 12, 1991 at the suggestion of British Prince Charles. It exhibited 600 pieces of Chinese art treasures, all in Chinese and English. This is the first time in Europe. In line with the purpose of promoting Chinese art and promoting cultural exchanges, Mr. Xu zhantang constantly has new ideas: in 1990, he donated 1 million US dollars to the Chicago Museum of Art: total donation
Hong Kong's Xu's Museum of art has created a Chinese hall for the Australian National Museum of art with 20 million Hong Kong dollars worth of Chinese cultural relics, which gives all Australians a chance to learn about Chinese art. As a result, it has been awarded the "highest National Medal of art" by the Australian Government. Mr. Xu zhantang's donation is always designated for the creation of the China Art Museum, which displays Chinese cultural relics. It aims to promote Chinese culture and let the world know more about China. In Chinese mainland, Mr. Xu Zhantang invested $1 million to help the Shanghai museum to build a new museum. Shortly afterwards, when he learned that Nanjing museum had difficulty in the new art gallery, he also promised to donate 800 thousand dollars to build the bronze Museum and Ceramic Museum. He also lent 150 treasures to jointly hold a special exhibition of Chinese bronze and ceramics with Singapore Heritage Museum. In view of Mr. Xu zhantang's outstanding contribution to promoting world cultural exchanges, Nanjing Museum invited him as honorary president, and American magazine worldlink selected him as world art ambassador in 1991. All these things make Mr. Xu zhantang feel endless fun. He thinks that the pursuit of wealth is endless, and there will inevitably be many troubles. As a collector and a researcher of national culture, he has the highest spiritual enjoyment!
