Taizangta
Taizang pagoda is located about 40 kilometers east of Turpan city and about 1 km south of Gaochang city. It is a Buddhist building in the period of Gaochang kingdom. The tower is 20 meters high, and there are Buddhist caves and niches in the East and north of the tower. There is a hole in the west wall of the tower, which runs through the wall. Its function is unknown. The south wall has been destroyed. Because it is close to the old city of Gaochang, it is also a Buddhist building in Gaochang Kingdom, which fully reflects the prosperity of Buddhism in Gaochang period.
history
The Taizang pagoda was first built in the 6th-7th century A.D. (the Gaochang period of the Luo family). It was a famous Buddhist site at that time. At the end of the 14th century, after the rulers of Chagatai Khanate forced the residents of Gaochang to believe in Islam, the Tibetan pagoda was gradually destroyed.
There are Buddhist caves and niches in the East and north of the pagoda. There is a hole in the wall of the Western Tower, which runs through the wall, and its function is unknown; the southern wall has been destroyed, because it is close to the old city of Gaochang, and it is also a Buddhist building of Gaochang Kingdom, which fully reflects the prosperity of Buddhism in Gaochang period.
Ruins
Taizang pagoda is located in Turpan, Xinjiang. It is a Buddhist building in Gaochang during the Three Kingdoms period. It is about 20 meters tall and made of rammed earth. Its base is square and its side is 20 meters long. Its body is square. From the existing part, it is located in the east-west direction. The South and west parts of the tower are seriously damaged. There are niches on all sides. There are three rows of niches on the east wall, six in the upper, seven in the middle and eight in the lower. There are Buddha statues and murals of Buddhist stories in the niches. The north wall has two upper and lower floors, four upper and five lower floors. A rectangular vertical top type wall hole is chiseled at the height of 1m in the center of the west wall of the tower. It passes through the wall (the wall is 13 meters thick), and there are two deep wall holes on both sides of the wall hole.
The site covers an area of 939 square meters. The residual height is about 20 meters. The plane of the tower body is slightly called mouth shape, facing south by West. The base of the tower is 36 meters long from north to south, 34 meters long from east to west, and 8-12 meters thick. The inside of the tower is hollow, and the inner side is about 15 meters. There is a gap about 3 meters wide in the middle of the south.
Basic appearance
There are three layers of niches in the east wall, one in width and one in height at the South and North ends of the niches in the second layer, with flat top; there are two rows of niches in the upper part of the north wall, with the same position, height and form as the niches in the second and third layers of the east wall;
The north part of the west wall does not exist, the south part of the wall has a horizontal edge platform at the same height as the bottom of the east wall, and there is no Buddhist niche remains; the two ends of the south wall are convex, the middle part is concave, and there is no Buddhist niche remains on the surface.
The height difference between the inside and outside of the tower is 1.7m, and there is a ramp connecting the inside and outside at the South gap. The body of the tower is made of rammed earth. On the surface of the inner and outer walls, there are wooden holes staggered up and down, lined with adobe, in the shape of square holes. The medial wall is basically upright, and the lateral wall has about 1 / 8 of the score. There are two rows of horizontal arched corner relics on the top of the inner side of the east wall, and similar relics on the inner side of the north wall. In the north of the east wall, about 3 meters away from the north wall, we can see the remains of the end of the internal partition wall built by Adobe, the upper end to the lower horizontal arch angle, the width of the bottom of the partition wall is about 1 meter, and there is a harvest upward. In the upper part of the intersection of the outer side of the south wall and the inner side of the east wall, we can see the remains of the sail arch built by adobe.
The remains of Taizang pagoda is a large-scale, well preserved and early built Buddhist architectural relic in Xinjiang. It is an important relic for the spread and development of Buddhism along the silk road. It reflects the rise and fall of Buddhist activities in the history of Gaochang and the characteristics of the fusion of religious architectural culture in Gaochang area. It has high cultural value.
