In 1986, in order to further enhance the people to people friendly exchanges between China and Japan and deepen the understanding and friendship between the two peoples, after consulting with Wuxi People's Association for friendship with foreign countries, Japanese friends such as Keitaro Sakamoto and Kiyoshi Hasegawa (the late) organized a "Japanese Friendship Forest Construction Implementation Committee" in Japan, and decided to carry out the Sino Japanese Friendship forest construction through the way of giving cherry tree seedlings to Wuxi City Friendly exchange activities between the two countries. After many consultations, in the summer of 1987, the Japanese Friendship Forest Construction Implementation Committee and Wuxi People's Association for friendship with foreign countries officially signed an agreement on presenting cherry seedlings and jointly building cherry forest in Wuxi. Since then, the folk friendship activities of "Sino Japanese Cherry Blossom friendship forest" have been officially launched.

In March 1988, with the approval of the Ministry of foreign affairs and the all China Friendship Association, the first phase of the Sino Japanese Cherry Blossom friendship forest project, jointly constructed by the Wuxi People's Association for friendship with foreign countries and the Japan Friendship Forest Construction Implementation Committee, was officially launched at the foot of Luding mountain in Yuantouzhu park. A total of 409 Japanese friends from Japan visited China for the first time to meet Wuxi leaders and citizens 1500 cherry tree seedlings were planted, friendship pavilion was built with granite, and steles were erected to commemorate. In April 1989, more than 400 Japanese friends from Japan's "China Japan Cherry Blossom friendship forest" visited tin for the second time. As the second phase of the project, 500 Cherry Blossom seedlings were planted in Taihu Lake paradise and a monument was erected. The delegation also visited Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. In April 1990, in order to highlight the importance of Sino Japanese folk friendship, the Japan Friendship Forest Construction Implementation Committee organized the third visit to China of Japan's "Sino Japanese Cherry Blossom friendship forest". A total of 1176 Japanese friends visited China and Wuxi, becoming the largest number of foreign non-governmental organizations to visit China after breaking the blockade and sanctions imposed by European, American and Japanese countries after the "89 turmoil". Since 1991, the Japanese side has organized large-scale visiting groups to visit China and Wuxi every year. Over the past 24 years, more than 12000 Japanese friends have come to visit China to exchange with Xizhi cherry trees, watering and cultivating the soil for the "Sino Japanese cherry tree friendship forest". Since 1995, Japan's organization has been divided into two parts, namely, the Japan Friendship Forest Construction Implementation Committee with Mr. Sakamoto as its president, and the Japan China common Sakura friendship forest preservation association with Mr. Hasegawa Kiyoshi (late) as its president. Since 1998, the Japan China Friendship Sakura Friendship Association, which was presided over by Mr. Ishigaki (late), has started to carry out cherry planting exchanges with Wuxi alone (now president, Mr. Kobayashi Chong).

Development experience

Over the past 24 years, thanks to the joint efforts and care of China and Japan, the "Sino Japanese Sakura friendship forest" in Yuantouzhu park has been magnificent. At present, there are more than 30000 cherry trees and more than 40 varieties of cherry blossoms. China and Japan have also built cherry appreciation building and other facilities in the forest, further improving and improving the landscape and public facilities of the "Sino Japanese Sakura friendship forest". In 2010, Wuxi Municipal government further spent a lot of money to move the surrounding villages, expand and build "Cherry Valley", making Yuantouzhu one of the largest cherry blossom viewing and scientific research bases in China. In April of every year, cherry blossom is in full bloom. The bright and bright "Sino Japanese Cherry Blossom friendship forest" has become a must for Wuxi, residents of surrounding cities and resident Japanese people to carry out Cherry Blossom exchange. Over the past 24 years, besides Wuxi, the Japanese "Cherry Blossom friendship forest" delegation has also visited more than 20 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Changsha, Shaoshan, Dalian, Kunming, Luoyang, Huangshan, Lianyungang, Guilin and Dunhuang. The total number of Japanese friends visiting China has exceeded 12000.

Over the past 24 years, China and Japan have carried out extensive exchanges in the fields of economy, education and culture, in addition to cherry planting exchanges. In 1992, a flood occurred in Wuxi, and Japan presented 5 million yen of consolation money to Wuxi. In 1997, the Japan China common cherry friendship Forest Preservation Association donated 20 million yen to build the "Sino Japanese Cherry friendship forest activity center" with Wuxi People's Association for friendship with foreign countries in Wuxi. With the recommendation of Japanese friendly people, Shiguang industry and xiaocang clutch of qunma County of Japan have respectively set up two wholly-owned enterprises in Wuxi New Area. In addition, cooperation has been carried out in the fields of foreign trade and sending students to Japan for research and study. In 2000, under the promotion of the Japanese friendly personages in friendship forest, Fujioka City, qunma County, Japan, and Jiangyin city entered into a friendly city relationship. The Japan China Friendship Association donated 10 wheelchairs to Wuxi social welfare center, and began to receive Wuxi to send nursing technicians of Wuxi social welfare to Japan for short-term study. In 2001, Japan Friendship Forest Construction Implementation Committee donated 620000 yuan to build a teaching building in konggushu Township, Sangzhi County, Hunan Province. Over the past 24 years, the Japanese side has repeatedly invited Wuxi City to visit Japan, and invited teachers and students from Wuxi foreign friends association, Wuxi Civil Affairs Bureau, Wuxi disabled people's Federation, Wuxi children's palace, Wuxi Xishi primary school and Wuai primary school to Japan for exchanges. In addition, the Japan China joint Sakura friendship Forest Conservation Association also organized the educational circles of Suzuka city in Sanchong County of Japan to exchange with Wuxi City. The Japan China Friendship Association had personnel and technical exchanges with Wuxi disabled people's Federation, Wuxi social welfare center and Wuxi rehabilitation hospital. In 2007, it coincided with the 20th anniversary of the "Sino Japanese Cherry Blossom friendship forest" folk friendship activities. More than 300 Japanese friends visited China, and China and Japan held grand celebrations at the Great Hall of the people in Wuxi. In 2009 and 2010, the visiting group of Japan China Friendship Sakura friends association built a "Sakura friends garden" with Wuxi City at Shuofang airport in Wuxi. At present, more than 500 Sakura trees have been planted. In addition, the association also organized an economic investigation group of Japan Suzuka city commercial and industrial conference Institute to visit Wuxi, aiming to carry out economic exchanges with Wuxi City.
