Tangjiaan
Tangjia'an, once known as "huangjia'an" and "Jifu Temple", is located at No. 544 Xiatang, Sandan Fulan village, Datun Town, Pudong New Area.
It is located in Sandun, Nanhui, Shanghai. It used to be called "Jifu Temple" and "Huangjia Temple". It was built in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years.
Basic introduction
At first, it was a Huang surname family nunnery, and later, it was taken over by the Tang surname, followed by "Tang family nunnery". In order to carry forward Buddhism, master Hongming devotes himself to Buddhism and takes up the task of restoring tangjiaan.
Historical development
From December 1997 to now, relying on the donations and unremitting efforts of many pilgrims and residents, we have built roads, walls, canteens and Zen homes, covering a total area of 16 mu.
In order to build a unique temple as soon as possible, we also invite the majority of pilgrims and residents to help us. We firmly believe that with the care and support of all parties, tangjiaan will regain its vitality and reappear its new appearance.
Historically, tangjiaan was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1620), with a history of more than 400 years. The site of the temple is located in Sandan Fulan village, Datun Town, Nanhui District, between Sanxuan highway and Dongda highway. There is no record of this temple in historical documents. Tangjiaan used to be a small village nunnery, with several folk halls as Buddhist nunneries. At the beginning, it was a Huang family nunnery, and later it was taken over by the Tang family. It was renamed "tangjiaan". It has dozens of mu of monk fields, and is inhabited and operated by monks and nuns. Nun Liansheng, the 26 generation abbot of tangjiaan (also the abbot of Nanhui Jingxin nunnery, died in February 1945), raised funds to build the great hall, which was completed in 1931. Huating, the 27 generation Abbot (died in August 1949), raised funds to build Guanyin hall and two Zen houses in 1946. The scale of the building reached 18 houses, surrounded by walls, covering an area of 53 mu. The temple is complete in shape and magnificent in hall. During this period, abbess Liansheng proposed to change the name to "Jifu Temple". Based on the research of tangjiaan's teachers, it should belong to the first Department of Nanhui Jingxin nunnery at that time, and according to the poetry of Jingxin nunnery's master apprenticeship system, the legal name is arranged: "Qingjing Lianhua carries from the heart, all depends on the performance of virtue; if you can constantly improve yourself, you will surpass the first-class Tathagata."
During the cultural revolution in 1967, tangjia'an was devastated. Local people looted Buddhist statues and temple property. In 1979, Tangjia temple was demolished, including the main hall, Guanyin hall and Sansheng hall. The whole temple was destroyed, leaving only three bungalows. Colorful camellia, a rare treasure in the temple, was not spared. The vows of several generations of monks and nuns were destroyed. Only the abbot Congqing, Congjin, Zhiming and other nuns painstakingly practiced in the temple. In 1995, master Hongming, a monk from Wutai Mountain, came to Hongfa temple in tangjia'an and determined to rebuild and expand the temple. During the development of Yangshan Port in Shengsi, Zhejiang Province, part of Yangshan Bodhisattvas were moved to tangjia'an for support. With the support of Shengsi religious office, tangjia'an held the foundation laying ceremony of expansion on December 31, 2004. In the following years, it invested in the construction of large-scale hall Zen houses such as Daxiong Hall, Tianwang hall, Guanyin hall and Dongpei hall, showing the current grand revival pattern.
There are two halls in tangjiaan, and the newly completed Tianwang hall is a two-story building. On the first floor, there are three arched gates for the four heavenly kings. On the second floor is the Buddhist hall. On the eighth day of the fourth lunar month in 2011, a ceremony was held on the second floor of the temple of heavenly kings. Along with the pagoda, texts of scriptures copied by monks and believers were placed to pray for blessing.
layout
The main hall is behind the heavenly king hall. Between the two halls is the original Hall of tangjiaan. Judging from the existing relics, the old hall of tangjiaan is built to the East, with a row of five (three existing) farmhouses with tile eaves in the south of the Yangtze River. On the west side of it, there were three storeys as the residence of the nuns.
The main hall is a three story hall with five entrances. The front building is a pillar style imitation wood structure. The three-story yellow glazed tile double eaves Buddha Hall, carved wood doors and windows, and the second floor is a viewing balustrade and balcony surrounded by white marble. The main hall has three floors. The first floor is for Sakyamuni, the second floor is for Manjusri Bodhisattva, and the third floor is for the Standing Statue of Avalokitesvara. According to master Hongming, at the end of last century, he went to Wutai Mountain to worship Manjusri Bodhisattva and met Kuan Jing nun from wuzhuan temple in Guangzhou. Master Xuyun, an eminent monk of the Republic of China who lived to be more than 120 years old, became a nun. Therefore, by chance, master Hongming took Manjusri as the joyful Buddha, and specially built five Manjusri statues on the second floor of the main hall, imitating the five Manjusri statues on Mount Wutai, as the Manjusri Taoist temple of tangjiaan. The five Manjusri Bodhisattvas are divided into three niches, three in the middle, one on the left and one on the left. Among the three in the middle, Manjusri riding a lion is on the left, and the others are on the lotus seat holding lotus and other magic objects. The five Manjusri Bodhisattvas are unique among the Buddhist temples in Shanghai.
The east side of the main hall was built before the main hall. The first floor is the Zhike hall, and the second floor is the Guanyin hall. The Guanyin hall was built in 2008. There is another Avalokitesvara with thousands of hands and thousands of eyes. The difference is that the Avalokitesvara here is a standing statue of Avalokitesvara dressed in the crown of heaven.
According to master Hongming, there have been many miracles in tangjiaan. Tang jia'an was once renamed as "Jifu Chan yuan", but the Feng Shui incense has not been smooth since it was renamed. Master Hongming thinks that Buddhism is a gift of universal blessing for all living beings. However, it is against the true meaning of Buddhism to gather the blessing of all people in Yi'an, so it is not smooth to change its name to hou'an. On October 29, 2005, bamagenga living Buddha held a fire offering ceremony in tangjia'an. During the ceremony, the images of Fire Phoenix, fire horse and fire dragon appeared many times in the flame, which were all regarded as supernatural and had a record as evidence. On February 15 of the lunar calendar in 2007, when the main hall was in the early stage of construction, Buddha light appeared above tangjiaan. The sky was full of colorful light, like a pillar of Buddha light shining on the hall. It was a wonder.
Today's tangjiaan has become a scene of Datun Town, which is better than ever before. At present, there are nearly ten monks and nuns in tangjiaan, and the believers are actively supporting them. I believe tangjiaan will become a wonderful flower embedded in the rapidly changing territory of Pudong New Area.
