On March 21, 2003, Huang Daopo Memorial Hall opened in Dongwan village, Huajing Town, Xuhui District, Shanghai. It is adjacent to Huang Daopo's tomb. The building area of the memorial hall is about 300 square meters. When you step into the courtyard, you will see a 2.2-meter-high statue of Huang Daopo. On the doorpost, there is a couplet that says "one shuttle goes through the universe, two hands weave cloud clothes". The horizontal inscription is "the world of clothes and quilts" written by Mr. Zhou Gucheng.
Overview of scenic spots
There are three exhibition halls in the memorial hall. The main exhibition hall shows Huang Daopo's life story and her historical contributions to China's textile industry. The other two exhibition halls show textile tools and cotton textiles of different periods. In the exhibition hall of textile tools, there are more than 30 sets (pieces) of different styles of playing machines, spinning machines and looms. In the exhibition hall of cotton textiles, there are more than 300 pieces of cotton homespun, blue calico, cotton knitted clothes and trousers, apron and belly pocket, bed sheet and quilt cover, many of which are treasures preserved in the Ming and Qing Dynasties
Introduction to Huang Daopo
Huang Daopo (1245-1330) was a famous cotton weaver in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty. Also known as Huang Po, Huang mu, Han nationality. Songjiangfu Wunijing town (now Huajing Town, Shanghai) people. Born in poverty, he was forced by the feudal family to live in Yazhou (today's Hainan Island). He took the Taoist temple as his home, worked and lived among Li sisters, and learned to use cotton tools and weaving methods of Yazhou quilt.
During the Yuanzhen period of the Yuan Dynasty (1295-1296), he returned to his hometown and taught people how to make cotton in Wunijing Town, east of Songjiang Prefecture. He also taught and popularized the weaving techniques of "guard (agitator), elastic (elastic bow), spinning (spinning wheel), weaving (loom) and" color matching, heddle pulling out ". The quilt and towel belt she weaves has the words "Tuanfeng chess game" written on it. Because people in the area of Wunijing and Songjiang quickly mastered the advanced weaving technology, "Wunijing spread widely in the north and south of the river.". At that time, Taicang, Shanghai and other counties followed suit. Cotton textiles are colorful, showing an unprecedented grand occasion. After Huang Daopo's death, Songjiangfu had become the largest cotton textile center in China. Songjiang cloth is known as "the world of clothes and quilts".
He died in 1330. The people of Songjiang expressed their gratitude for her kindness and set up a temple for her in 1336, the second year of Emperor Shun's Zhiyuan reign. Later, because of the war, the temple was destroyed. In the 22nd year of Zhizheng reign (1362), Zhang Shouzhong, a native, rebuilt and asked Wang Feng to write a poem to commemorate.
In 1626, Zhang Zhixiang was sculpted in Ningguo temple. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, there was a small temple in the northwest lane of Du he Lou in Shanghai. Huang Daopo's tomb is located in Dongwan village, north of Huajing Town, Shanghai county. It was rebuilt in 1957 and has a stone tablet. There used to be Xianmian temple and Huangdaopo temple in the south of Shanghai. In the courtyard of Yu in Shanghai, there is a bazhiting, which was used as a cloth industry office in Xianfeng Period of Qing Dynasty, worshipping Huang Daopo as the ancestor. In Wunijing, Huang Daopo's hometown, there is still a ballad that "Huang Daopo, Huang Daopo, teach me yarn, teach me cloth, two bobbins and two pieces of cloth".
Huang Daopo's contribution
Huang Daopo is a pioneer of China's cotton textile industry and an outstanding innovator of textile technology in the 13th century. She has the innovation spirit of fearing hardships and being the first in the world. She took the cotton textile technology she learned in Hainan back to her hometown and spread it in Songjiang, Shanghai. Through the reform, we have created a set of advanced cotton spinning tools and technology, which not only benefits our hometown, but also greatly promotes our cotton spinning industry. In order to carry forward the great achievements of Huang Daopo, a textile innovator of the Yuan Dynasty, and encourage the latecomers, the Xuhui District Cultural Bureau and the people's Government of Huajing town jointly funded the construction of Huang Daopo Memorial Hall beside the cemetery in 2003, displaying more than 300 exhibits, showing her life's contributions.
