When the Chinese art museum was built in 1958, the western part of the garden was demolished, leaving only the eastern part of the house.
It was built in the late Qing Dynasty and was originally the private residence of Empress Dowager Cixi's niece. In the early years of the Republic of China, it was sold to a German businessman and bought by comprador Wu Xin after the Anti Japanese war. It was soon confiscated as enemy property. Later, it became the residence of general Du Yuming. Now it is a dormitory.
The architectural pattern of the courtyard is relatively advanced, which is a typical medium-sized courtyard in Beijing. The buildings in the courtyard are well preserved with distinctive brick, wood and stone carvings. On March 8, 2001, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Beijing.
