brief introduction
The predecessor of Beijing underground city is civil air defense fortification, which was built in 1969. The underground city project, which took ten years, was completed in 1979. It is divided into three fortification districts and leads to all sides of the urban area, forming a civil air defense tunnel network of initial scale.
In order to prepare for the war, an air raid shelter was built in Qianmen area since 1969. At that time, men, women, old and young living nearby went to battle together. Without the help of machinery, this huge air raid shelter was built and dug in 1979. The underground city is eight meters away from the ground, with a maximum depth of more than ten meters and a width of two meters. It has a total length of more than 30 kilometers and can accommodate more than 300000 people. Because of the huge amount of engineering and complete facilities, it is called "underground city".

Tourism information
The underground city is 8 meters away from the ground, with a maximum depth of more than 10 meters, a width of two meters, a total length of more than 30 kilometers, and can accommodate more than 300000 people. Because of the huge amount of engineering and complete facilities, it is called "underground city". Nearly 70 underground cities have been identified as rich in underground water. If necessary, a continuous supply of underground water can be obtained by digging a few meters down. There are 2300 specially designed ventilation holes in the city, which can continuously bring fresh air into the underground city.
In addition, there are movie theaters, barber shops and other entertainment and necessary living facilities in the underground city. The underground passage extending in all directions can lead directly to the administrative center, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the railway station. In 1980, Qianmen arts and Crafts Service Department was set up in the underground city using part of the civil air defense fortification space. It operates four treasures of the study, enamel and jade, jewelry, celebrity calligraphy and paintings, tourism herbs and other crafts. At the same time, it also provides services such as Chinese Medicine consultation and stamp printing. At present, the underground city has a silk processing factory.
The underground city is twice as big as the tunnel of Ranzhuang tunnel battle in Hebei Province, with a height of 2.5 meters. The narrowest place can accommodate three people and walk in a row. The widest place can accommodate five people. Some places can even pass a jeep. In addition, there is an energy-saving lamp every 5 meters on the top of the underground city. There is a "storeroom" of about 10 square meters at the intersection of each passage in the underground city, which is named "ammunition depot", "Quartermaster depot" and "combat readiness hospital".
Before, there were many wrong views about "underground city" on the Internet, and they were all shrouded in mystery.
First, the underground city is not allowed to be visited by Chinese people at all, and only receives foreign group visitors, so that some people once angrily accused it of being a modern version of "Chinese and dogs do not enter".
Second, the site is an important base for revolutionary education, so local group tourists are allowed to visit it without admission, but it is not open to individual visitors.
Third, individual visitors can visit, but they need to hold the letter of introduction issued by the street.
In fact, it's very easy to visit. No one asks you for any certificate or political examination. Just pay. Both domestic and foreign guests are treated equally.
