Northwest Institute for Nationalities
In September 1949, the first field army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army (PLA), with Peng Dehuai as its commander, established a "research class on Tibetan issues" in Lanzhou, an important town in Northwest China, in accordance with the spirit of Mao Zedong's relevant instructions. In November of the same year, the research class on Tibetan issues was expanded into a Tibetan School. The site of the school was temporarily borrowed from the former site of Lanzhou Agricultural College in the West 30 Li orchard of Lanzhou city.
