Bird Road Xiongguan is an important gateway of the ancient "Southwest Silk Road" human horse post road, with an altitude of 2700 meters. Up to now, the stone tablet of "Bird Road Xiongguan" carved in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty is still preserved. Bird experts believe that this is the only earliest and oldest record of bird track in the world so far. From the middle of September to the middle of October every year, thousands of migratory birds lose their way here. They collide with each other and make all kinds of calls, forming a "bird hanging mountain" spectacle.

Bird Road Xiongguan is located in Weishan City, the former capital of Nanzhao. LONGQINGGUAN is an important gateway of the ancient "Southwest Silk Road" with an altitude of 2700 meters. Niaodao Xiongguan is located in Longqing pass in Weishan Yi and Hui Autonomous County of Yunnan Province. Weishan Yi and Hui Autonomous County in western Yunnan is located in a basin with great altitude difference, lush forest and charming scenery.

The county's 2700 meters above sea level of Weishan Longqing pass, where stands a stone tablet engraved in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty - "Bird Road Xiongguan". It is 1.7 meters wide, 0.7 meters high and 0.1 meters thick. It has four big characters in Wei style, with strong strokes. Every mid autumn, there are tens of thousands of migratory birds flying from here, flying to Myanmar, India and other places for the winter. According to experts' investigation, it is not only the post road of the ancient Silk Road in Southwest China, but also the throat channel for migratory birds.

The origin of Bird Road

"Niao Dao Xiongguan" is known locally as "Da Niao mountain" or "Da que mountain". I don't know when local people have formed the habit of catching migratory birds here. For a long time in the past, many local people regarded these birds as "food and wine falling from the sky".

Around the torch festival from the middle of September to the middle of October every year, the sad cries and struggling sounds of birds can be heard everywhere when they are knocked down. When migratory birds migrate, they bring home-made net poles and handstoves, follow the sound of birds and come to the trees to make a fire. When birds fly near the fire, they open a net to catch them. I don't know how many birds die in this way. It is said that a sack of birds can be caught in one night here, which is enough for the whole family to have a good meal.

In the autumn of 1997, the International Symposium on bird banding was held in Weishan. More than 40 bird research authorities from Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries and regions came to "Niaodao Xiongguan" to make a scientific investigation of the mystery here. The sisters and brothers in the nearby villages put on bright red "Phoenix crown" embroidered hats, put on festive costumes, blow Lusheng, dance the intoxicating "singing and dancing" of the Yi family, and welcome the guests from afar with the most mellow wine. After the experts left, the masses also understood that this "bird pass" is an extremely rare place in the world. The birds that fly to cover the sky and the sun are also friends of human beings, so we should protect them well.
